Hiya Step, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.
What was life like for you before you got into music?
I’ve always been into music, but spent the past 25 years working as a nurse and not focusing on my songwriting. Covid got me back into it as I wasn’t allowed in the pub!
What’s the live music scene like in Hastings, UK right now? Anyone we should be looking out for (bar you, of course)?
Hastings has always had a busy music scene, being the host of Fat Tuesday. Toby, aka King Size Slim is great if you manage to catch him live
It seems like being a social media curator has become added to the many jobs of a musician, how do you feel about this?
I do enjoy making reels etc, but when you see the majority of people scrolled past at 0.01 seconds it makes you feel a bit s**t really. To scroll that quickly they must just be exercising their thumbs!

How do you manage engagement on your socials?
I reply personally to as many as I can
What’s your view on the Music industry today?
I was chatting to the kids about this as they said this is my new favourite song but didn’t know what it was called or who sang it (they’re 11 and 13), I tried to describe the excitement of a new album coming out and you bought they whole CD and then listened to it on repeat for the next 2 months, but they didn’t get it sadly, I will keep trying! Streaming platforms are great for releasing your music as an indie artist but a hell of a lot of other artists are doing it too!
Where do you feel you currently sit within the music industry?
In the slurry……
Whats the biggest thing you have learned recently as you progress with your music?
It’s hard and expensive! Avoid the promotion scammers, they’re literally everywhere!
What was your best experience on stage?
Having a crowd sing along!
What was your worst experience on stage?
Sound problems and having to tell jokes (well I found them funny!)
Tell us something about you / each member that you think people would be surprised about.
Step – Emergency nurse for nearly 20 years, now own a small clinic doing minor surgery
Lou – Emergency department Dr and volunteer for the RNLI
Jason – barber, teacher and drummer extraordinaire
I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?
The Mary Stanford (Eternal Father Strong To Save) was written in remembrance of the Mary Stanford lifeboat disaster in 1928, it’s local to Hastings. It is also a dedication to the volunteers of the RNLI (our Lou included)
What was the recording process like?
Long and stressful, James our producer is quite harsh when it comes to us messing up vocals/timing etc!
What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?
Not sure really, just relax and let it flow
Would you change anything now it’s finished?
I don’t think so, it’s our style so that’s it! 😊
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
Going make to a song off our first album – Don’t be a dick, simple rule to live by
