RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW ALL THE YOUNG

Hiya Ryan from All the Young, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.

What was life like for you before you got into music?

I kind of can’t remember it. I’ve been playing music since I was 15. I think I was trying to be a footballer and failing!

What’s the live music scene like in Stoke right now?
Stoke isn’t as lively as it used to be but there are some good bands around still. I personally live in Copenhagen, and it’s bouncing here although not as many guitar bands as you’d expect..

Anyone we should be looking out for (bar you, of course)?

Big fans of The Institutes at the moment. They just released a great track called Trick of the Light

It seems like being a social media curator has become added to the many jobs of a musician, how do you feel about this?

It’s tough, I won’t lie. Staying on top of it all is a drag. I make sure to divvy all tasks up between us in the band as best I can though.

How do you manage engagement on your socials?

Keep the comments going, co-posting. Supporting other bands. If you wanna compete with the big guys on the algo we need to support each other!

What’s your view on the Music industry today? I think it’s crushing smaller and new bands to be honest. You have to really love it to keep creating. Luckily we fall in to that category. We are lucky that we have the fanbase we do. I sympathise with new bands but they should never give up and take all the chances they can.

Where do you feel you currently sit within the music industry?

We’re the kings of the toilet venues. The jouneymen of indie. Obviously we should be 10 x bigger like all our fans say 😉

Whats the biggest thing you have learned recently as you progress with your music?

You have to love it. If you don’t love it then you won’t make your best stuff. We’ve learned to shut out the neggy vibes and just make music for the right reasons. For the love of making ace songs.

What was your best experience on stage?

Playing to over 4k at Hurricane festival in the main tent. Supporting Morrissey – there’s been a few!

What was your worst experience on stage?

Being a little drunk when supporting The Rifles at Camden Roundhouse and offering someone a fight in the crowd. He was being a twat to us but there’s still no need from my side. Young and dumb!

Tell us something about you / each member that you think people would be surprised about.

I live in Denmark and the boys live in Stoke, UK. A lot of travelling involved to keep this band going!

I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?

Something More is out on Friday, and we also have a charity single out the following Friday for Christmas. Something More is a song about hope during the negative news cycles. There’s more to life!

What was the recording process like?

We recently changed producers to Gareth Nuttall (The Ks, Lottery Winners) and it’s been fantastic for us. We have our live sound coming out on record now (finally!)

What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?

Changing producers was huge. We have always struggled to get our live energy on to record. I think we have finally managed to do it. I hope people respond!

Would you change anything now it’s finished?

100% no!

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

Keep an eye out for a Bandcamp release in the first week of Dec from us. It is a charity release with the lyrics of a now deceased young man that his Dad found. It was a sobering process for a great cause!
