RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW AMERICAN 2 PIECE MURNAU
What made you decide to start the band?
16 years later it’s hard to remember what actually sparked the creation of Murnau. We had both been in several projects together previously and Murnau was the band that has withstood the test of time.
Introduce us to the members and your musical history?
Murnau is a stripped down 2-piece with Alex Riggen on vocals and guitar; Nick Pompou on drums. We’ve both been in bands together since Freshmen year of high school.
Whats one question you’re sick of being asked when interviewed?
The meaning behind songs. Prefer to let the listeners decide that.
We set up RGM to share music with both countries, good idea?
Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories?
Can’t think of anything. I’m way too skeptical.
What useless party trick do you have?
Going back to the snack tray multiple times with no one noticing.
What makes you stand out as a band?
By stripping down our music to just 2 people playing guitars, drums and vocals we have to get creative to write something compelling that keeps fans coming back. We spend a lot of time fine tuning our songs to make sure every part matters and nothing feels too repetitive or uninspired.
Right now, what’s pissing you off the most?
A sore throat…
Whats your favourite song to play live and why?
Changes all the time. Right now, really enjoy opening our setlist with Dalia.
I hear you have a new single, what can you tell us about it?
Primroses is a track we’ve been working on for awhile. We knew where we wanted to go but it took many practices and evolutions to come to the right guitar tone, drum parts and overall structure to get to where we were satisfied. And Ross’s final mix really brought it all together.
Would you change anything now its finished?
Nope! Final mixed turned out better than we could have imagined. Full credit goes to @rossmixes on Instagram.
What are your plans for the year ahead?
We’ve spent quite a few months focused on writing and recording. Would like to update our setlist and start playing some shows locally more often again. In the meantime, it’s inevitable we’ll start working on new music as well.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
Just appreciate anyone who gives our music a chance. There’s tons of great music out there and people who are willing to find and listen to something new makes this all worthwhile.
