What made you decide that music is a thing for you?
I started making music in high school on a laptop and then just never stopped I only started releasing seriously in 2019 or so but I’ve been making and experimenting with music for a long time.
Introduce us to you and your musical history?
My name is Avego, I was in classical music for a long time as a musician from middle school and onwards before transitioning out and making my own music. I started making my own music and started releasing it in 2019 and I have been releasing ever since through some indie labels as well as through my own label.
Name me your 3 favorite Albums.
My top three albums this is a hard one…… I’d say the first one is Epiphany by T-Pain as its one of the first records I can really remember listening to in a serious way and absorbing, The second one would be Porter Robinsons album Worlds I had listened to Porter for a long time before Worlds came out but the music was not anything id ever heard before and I loved it. The last one would have to be While (1<2) by Deadmau5, Deadmau5 is an amazing producer and artist and I think this album is one of his best and most well-rounded.
What was the first song you heard that steered you into a music path?
The song the steered me to my music path was called Love is Darkness by Sander Van Doorn, I heard it while browsing YouTube and after that, I wanted to make music that sounded like that and it sent me down the rabbit hole where I later discovered artists like Armin and Deadmau5.
The music industry is the hardest industry in the world to progress in, how do you feel you are doing?
I can always be doing something better. Whether it’s promotion, content creation, networking, or music production I can always be doing better at something. I’m never satisfied with what I’m doing because I always think I can be doing better.
I’m seeing a lot of debate about women not feeling safe at music gigs, any thoughts on what we need to do to help?
People need to make sure they are respectful of each other. They want to have a good time. As the artist, I want them and everyone else attending to have a good time. Don’t be a dick.
As you develop as an artist and develop using socials what ways do you get new ears on your music? Any tips?
Targeted ads are one of the most powerful things you can use, and you can use them to explore places outside of your area. If you live in LA, you can target people who like the music you make in New York and open access to another market. Or to target another market and see if your music resonates better with them.
Tell us Two truths and a lie about you?
I’ve played Coachella, I’ve played EDC, I’ve played in Carnegie Hall
What’s your thought on Spotify’s monopoly on the music industry?
From a business perspective what Spotify has done is revolutionary. They along with Napster turned the music industry upside down. So at least from a business perspective they are doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing.
For the artist however it is becoming more and more challenging to get their attention and it sort of ruins the authenticity of what you do as an artist if you just chase streams which is exactly what you have to do in order to get noticed.
Do you sign up for any conspiracy theories?
Haha no not really there are some that I’ve seen but I take everything with a gigantic grain of salt now a days.
Did you buy anything you don’t need during the pandemic?
I bought some guitars and that’s about it I didn’t need them, but they turned out to be useful later on, to be honest.
What was the worst experience on stage?
I completely forgot how to DJ for a solid 5 mins during the beginning of one of my sets I did. I was lucky that I had memorized my opening sequence for that night, so it wasn’t that bad but yea that was the worst/most embarrassing thing so far.
Tell us something about you that you think people would be surprised about.
Maybe not too surprising but I listen to a lot of classical music.
What makes you stand out as an artist?
I make a diverse set of high-quality music so there is something in there for everyone. I also am (almost) completely self-sufficient I do as much of my own business, and everything involved with music as I can.
I also like to think I am authentic as far as my music goes its music I would want to listen to so.
I hear you have new music, what can you tell us about it.
Yes, I have an EP coming out called MixTape #1. It is so named beca use it’s a mix of songs that I wanted to release that aren’t in the same genre. Dime is a Latin R&B song, Holding on is a future bass song, Orbital is a techno song, and Lament is a classical song.
Talk me through the thought process of the new tune/s.
These are all songs I’ve made throughout the last year or so that I hadn’t gotten a chance to release but now they are getting released. To be honest there really isn’t a rhyme or reason for them it just sort of happened that I wanted to make them so.
Dime happened me wanting to make another song in Spanish, so I made the instrumental and then sent it off into the ether to see if anyone wanted to do a vocal and it all turned out well I think.
Holding On started with the vocal sample and a piano and ballooned into what you hear in that track it’s just a very large wide etherical song open song.
Orbital happened because I wanted to do a techno song, so I just started messing around with instruments and effects until I found the bass for it and built a song around that.
Lament is the oldest of all the songs on the EP its just a classical song with a piano as the main melody carrier and then an orchestra backing with it.
What was the recording process like?
It wasn’t too hard since the songs were made at different times it wasn’t difficult for me to do.
What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?
Learning that techno is a lot harder than it looks to make. Also arranging vocals is always kind of a pain but it all worked out in the end.
Would you change anything now it’s finished?
No, I’m happy with how it turned out.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
