LEXI LEMONADE

RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW AMERICAN ARTIST LEXI LEMONADE, WHAT HAPPENED?

Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.

What made you decide that music is a thing for you?

I just really had the urge to try it out lol I LOVED music growing up to the point I would get in trouble at times because I would be blasting music in my ears (through my headphones) and never be able to hear anyone else when they were calling me 🤣. I fell in love with the music arrangements and would be listening to every detail the vocals the percussion the production and the feeling it gave me. Music is the only thing that made me feel alive and like I could do anything

Introduce us to you and your musical history.

I go by the name of Lexi Lemonade! I began music during my college years as a hobby in between studying. It gave me a much-needed mental break from the stress of school and just became a full-blown passion.

What was life like for you before music?

Boring 🤣 lol I feel like music made me feel like I had a purpose. But on a more serious note, music has always been somewhat a part of my life. From a young age, I would pretend to produce music on my piano.

I wanted to make beats very early on but didn’t realize that could be a career.  I would sing often with my Dad and sometimes even at family-friendly karaoke places. I would go on to join my school choir for 8 consecutive years and also join my school band where I played the Alto Sax. At a young age, I think the only thing that held me back from really trying was the lack of self-confidence. Over time I just had to learn to tune down that inner critic and really just accept myself for who I am and really go for it.

What was the first song you heard that steered you into a music path?

This is hard but probably Boys II Men End of the Road. I just remember getting so emotional and feeling all the emotion put into that song even though I was only a child. Made me want to sing my heart out lol

What’s the biggest thing you have learned from someone else in the industry?

Well, I noticed what makes an artist great and stand out (in my opinion) is the ability to stand out from the rest. Each of my faves has something about them that can’t be replicated or duplicated. They are 100% authentic to their craft and have their signature sound.

Tell us Two truths and a lie about you.

I owned 10 cats

I performed in a Wizard of Oz Play

The first concert I’ve been to was a Beyonce Concert

If you could wish for one thing to aid your career what would it be?

Oh, man. I think it would just be the funds to facilitate my career in the way I would like to. I would love to get some visuals out. Also I have unlimited access to the studio and really work on some skill building with people I admire.

Do you ever worry about people taking things the wrong way or cancel culture?

I think in this day and age you do have to be a little more mindful of what you put out there. In the age of social media, we are able to reach a plethora of people and also a plethora of people with opinions who may take things out of context lol. I think it’s important to stay true to yourself though as well.

Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories? If not why not?

If we are talking about Aliens then yes lol.

What was the worst experience on stage?

I forgot all of my lines lol I did a mini talent show when I was in middle school. I didn’t want to but agreed to just because someone wanted me to. Long story short I was not prepared and extremely nervous. I forgot all my lines once I got on the stage and was so embarrassed. They played the whole thing in the school the next day 🙁

Tell us something about you that you think people would be surprised about.

I used to want to be a veterinarian. Not sure what happened to that dream though 🤣

What makes you stand out as an artist?

So far I think my sound. Off the bat, it was hard for people who have heard it (that I know of personally) to compare my sound to anyone else.

It did make it hard at first because people always look for who you’re similar to (at first) so I feel like my music was kind of hard to understand but now that I put out FLAVORS EP I think the vision is starting to come together.

I hear you have NEW music, what can you tell us about it?

FLAVORS EP is a compilation of the music I’ve made in the past 2/3 years. I was forced to take a hiatus when I found out I was having my baby so I wasn’t able to create the way I wanted to at the time. Now I’m at a point of my life where I wanted to kind of start fresh with a fresh new sound but also to celebrate my beginnings as an artist. Flavors EP has 3 previously released tracks, Orion, my most recent single and a bonus track Service.

What was the recording process like?

Having been my first time recording it was a very interesting journey. I had to get used to the way my voice sounded in the microphone and learn different recording techniques while in the studio. It was a learning experience and also a lot of fun. It was also a lot of work just getting into the studio and converting whatever I heard in my head into something tangible that everyone could hear lol. I had a routine going as well I would visit the bookstore beforehand for an hour or two just to expand my mind and it was a great time for me just to appreciate myself and my creativity.

What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?

I think with each new song it’s a challenge at first to be able to convey what I’m trying to say in musical terms. I had to learn how to simplify things but also in a way that makes sense to the listener. I wanted it to sound as natural as a conversation between two people.

Would you change anything now it’s finished?

I think there is always room for improvement but I know with time as long as I’m consistent growth is inevitable. I’m excited for what’s to come!

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

Keep sharing and streaming FLAVORS! I’d love for this project to reach as many ears as possible this is my passion project finally manifested into reality. Creating this project brought me so much joy and just want to share it with those willing to listen 🙂
