RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW AMERICAN BAND DROPPING UGLY

Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.

What made you decide to start the band / become a soloist?

Think it was the video game, Sonic Adventure 2. I really wanted to be in a rock band with Shadow and Eggman.

Introduce us to all to the members and your musical history?

Simon Anderson on guitar and vocals. I’ve been plotting a rock n roll career since I first heard Vertical Horizon’s era defining butt rock album, “Everything You Want.”

Abbey Ballentine on drums. Think Coldplay changed her life, and it’s all been yellow since then.

What’s one question you’re sick of being asked when interviewed?

Which lever I’d pull in the trolley problem dilemma.

Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories?

I’d say that one where the global elites are vying for complete control of the citizenry, but I guess that’s not really a conspiracy anymore. ☺

What useless party trick do you have?

Unsolicited Wonderwall performances are a favorite of mine.

What was the most fun you have had on stage?

Ooooo probably this one time back in 2016 where we got to play The Black Cat in Washington DC which is a venue that Dave Grohl founded. Being a huge Nirvana fan, it was an honor to gig there even if it was their side stage. We all wore stage masks (Shrek, a black cat’s face, Donald Trump, and Hillary Clinton).

What was the worst experience on stage?

That’s hard to say, but it’d have to be this beach town gig back in college where half of my band was drunk and on pills, and we got pulled over by two cops leaving the bar. Lucky for us, I was straight edge at the time as well as our driver, and we managed to talk our way out of the busted taillight that they pulled us over for. It was my 18th birthday if I recall correctly, so it all felt pretty rock n roll, but I was scared to death.

Tell us something about you / each member that you think people would be surprised about?

We were both homeschooled

If you had to describe your band/music to an alien how would you describe it?

Our music when played backwards reveals the answer to the Three Body problem.

What makes you stand out as a band/Artist?

Our sound has rarely if ever been compared to the same band twice. This eclecticism is a blessing and a curse, and the culprit behind many “almost famous” type of moments for us.

Right now, what’s pissing you off the most? (Can’t say the virus )

Satan I guess?

Whats your favourite song to play live and why

All Star by Smash Mouth

I hear you have a new single, what can you tell us about it?

“If It Were Me” is a song about unrequited love and growing up. If Ed Sheeran had written/released it, he’d have made a few billion off it for sure.

Talk me through the thought process of the single/album/ep?

In the classic Christmas Movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” I thought about George Bailey’s line to Mary when they’re leaving the high school dance, “You know, if it wasn’t me talking, I’d say you were the prettiest girl in town!” That was the catalyst for this tune.

What was the recording process like?

When recording the guitar track, the room mic’s gain had to be cranked abnormally high to pick up my soft finger picking. So high that any time I slightly shifted, the sound of my clothes moving would get picked up in the audio. To counter this, I took half my clothes off for the duration of recording, and the problem went away.

What was the biggest learning curve in writing the single/album/ep?

Getting the lyrics exactly right. No compromises were made lyrically on this song.

Would you change anything now it’s finished?

Would’ve been cool to record it on tape like Nick Drake recorded his stuff back in the 60s.

What are your plans for the year ahead?

This spring, releasing an excellent 10 song album and touring the East Coast of America for a 10-date run. After that, getting proper pissed (as y’all would say across the pond).

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

In all seriousness, if more people understood what John 3:16 meant, and not just the bumper sticker version, much of the chaos we’re all in now could’ve been avoided. I’m prayerfully hoping for a revival in this world sooner rather than later.

Thanks for doing us today folks.
