RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW AMERICAN BAND JANE N’ THE JUNGLE
Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.
What made you decide to start the band?
I graduated with a BFA in Musical Theater from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and wanted to have a career on Broadway.
While attending school I was told that I wasn’t cut out for Broadway but my writing had potential so they allowed me to stay at the school if I were to take the writing classes. I began going to the writing classes and eventually the teacher told me I should get a guitar to sing and perform my writing that way, so I did. After a month of guitar lessons, I performed at open mics in Hollywood and stubbled upon the band after Brian Dellis saw one of my acoustic performances in Phoenix and asked if I wanted to start a band with him. Many years later it turned into Jane N’ The Jungle and where we are at today.
Introduce us to you all to the members and your musical history?
My name is Jordan White, I am the lead singer. I am a classically trained vocalist with a musical theater degree.
Brian Dellis is a guitarist, he grew up in punk rock bands.
Bryan Dague is the bassist and also grew up in punk rock bands and graduated from CRAS, an audio engineering, and music production school.
What’s one question you’re sick of being asked when interviewed?
How did you come up with the band name – LOL!
Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories?
Did you buy anything you don’t need in the pandemic?
I tried to simplify my spending during the pandemic so everything I bought was used or I still use except maybe for the live-streaming. We don’t do that as often now.
What useless party trick do you have?
Party trick? Hmmmm I can whip up a good ice tea.
What was the most fun you have had on stage?
I had a lot of fun at our SXSW performance this year at Lady Bird Lake!
What was the worst experience on stage?
Anytime you lose your voice
If you had to describe your band/music to an alien how would you describe it?
Female badass rock music.
What makes you stand out as a band?
Our music, passion, and raw emotion.
Right now, what’s pissing you off the most?
WAR. I pray for world peace every day.
What’s your favourite song to play live and why?
“Concrete Jungle” use to be my favorite by now I think it’s a new song off our EP called “Life of The Party.” I really liked the slow burn and gutsy end of “Concrete Jungle” but there’s a magic in “Life of The Party” I can’t yet describe… feels like a party.
I hear you have a new single, what can you tell us about it?
DIRTY DOG is the first single off our upcoming EP. It’s heavy, raw, and authentic to where we are at now as a band and can’t wait for you guys to hear it!
Talk me through the thought process of the single?
The thought process is a lot to process, and it all comes out in the form of the music. There was a lot of heaviness to go through and I am still processing it all but happy to get to share it with everyone soon.
What was the recording process like?
The recording process is the funniest part for me. I like to have a chill relaxing environment. I don’t like to get all worked up and stressed out, a little bit of that happened but it got sorted out and probably added emotion to the songs.
What was the biggest learning curve in writing the single?
I spent a lot of time diving deep into each of the songs. Usually, the songs flow out organically and I don’t edit much from the original version. This time around I sat with the lyrics for hours while drinking wine. I really wanted to get myself to that raw vivid headspace.
Would you change anything now it’s finished?
What are your plans for the year ahead?
Releasing our new singles and playing shows!
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
