RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW AMERICAN BAND LITVAR

What made you decide that music is a thing for you?

It’s the best way I can express myself. Simple as that.

Introduce us all to the members and your musical history.

Joe is a born drummer and performer, one of the best I’ve ever seen. Actually, the best probably.

Violet and I met him while performing in our previous project. Love at first sight — Joe insisted on drumming for us, didn’t take much since I was desperate for one. We’ve been best friends since. This band connects us really strong — we’ve now traveled from coast to coast, slept head to foot in a van, and gone through quite intense impasses together. Violet and I made music for a long time before we met Joe — we don’t share much music taste in common (though, Joe and I definitely share more in common) – it’s actually our humor and love that I find makes us have such good chemistry.

What was life like for you before music?

There is not much before music for me, can’t say for the band. – rex

What was the first song you heard that steered you into a music path?

Takk – Sigur Ros.

Where do you feel you currently sit within the music industry?

If you mean where I sit opinion-wise, I feel I don’t understand a lot of the direction marketing is headed. But I do at the same grasp the music industry feels largely focused on viral content / TikTok or whatever. If I’m honest I feel I wanted to be in it so that I can be a musician for a living, and disconnected from it at the same time because it feels like it taxes on my mental health to be so concerned with how people feel about what I do.

What’s the biggest thing you have learned from someone else in the industry?

Just make the art, and do your best. Stressing about the stuff inside a screen will not lead me to make good music.

If you could wish for one thing to aid your career what would it be?

Money would probably aid any career I think. If I could wish for a million billion hundred thousand dollars, I would.

Do you ever worry about people taking things the wrong way or cancel culture? Discuss….

Not really, I don’t see how that’s something to worry about. Unless you are a bad person.

Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories? If not, why not?

Aliens? If that could be considered one. But they are definitely real. Joe is one.

What was the worst experience on stage?

Singing the wrong notes and not being able to help it. Can’t remember exactly when, but when I used to smoke I had a lot of trouble hitting certain notes, and I would lose breath quickly.

Tell us something about each member that you think people would be surprised about.

Rex loves anime, Joe loves Legos, and Violet held the world record for Resident Evil 4 Speed runs at one point.

What makes you stand out as a band?

I would hope our style is what sticks out, we blend lots of different things together for our music — I think we’ll get better at it over time — perhaps that blend will be more obvious if it isn’t already.

I hear you have a new music, what can you tell us about it.

It’s charming, awkward, philosophical, sad, and big, and it’s my favorite album I’ve done. To me its what it’s like to be alive right now. Amalgamations of anxieties and social media, depression and addiction — love, longing, loss, and grief.

What was the recording process like?

I brought loads of demos to the band, we worked for ages on the templates, then brought them to a studio in LA like 3 years later haha. Some songs however, like; Nightfall, Boyfriend, and Maybe I’m Alive were less my doing. Joe wrote Nightfalls Bones, as well as Boyfriend. I added guitar parts to these, and lyrics with Violet.

What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?

Not so much the writing, but learning to let someone produce and mix your music is definitely something I wasn’t used to. But in the end, it is important, I think every musician should experience it.

Would you change anything now it’s finished?

Not really, no. I love it — it was supposed to sound more electronic, but the producer we worked with on this album gave it more of a live sound and I prefer that with these songs.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

I really liked the new Barbie movie.
