RGM Introducing: We Interview American band -Two Man Advantage
Hiya lads thanks for joining us today.
Introduce us all to the members and your musical history?
Snapshot, I’ve been playing bass since 1988. Mostly jamming with friends in high school. I joined Two Man in 2001, left in 2014 and rejoined in 2018.
What’s one question you’re sick of being asked when interviewed?
I’m sick of being asked what hockey team is my favorite.
So what’s your favorite hockey… O forget that 🙂 What support is out there for new artists in Long Island ?
I think the best support for the new artist are other new artists. The best way to get support for your new band is to show support for other bands. You need to network.
Who is inspiring you at the minute on the Long Island unsigned scene?
I might be biased but the new Too Many Voices and Action Park albums are killer.
What would you like to see more of in Long Island?
I wish there were better options for quality ramen. The few places I’ve been to are garbage.
Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories?
I believe that 5G really isn’t better or faster than 4G.
How do you view the music in the UK?
Normally I use YouTube but a few years back I flew to London to see Ned’s Atomic Dustbin in person.
What useless party trick /talent do you have?
I can drink a lot of beer and 40% of the time not make a complete ass out of myself.
What was the most fun you have had on stage?
Obviously, some shows are better than others but for the most part I’m always having fun on stage with Two Man. We’re all great friends who enjoy each other’s company, we aren’t making money from it so having fun is the only reason to keep the band going.
What was the worst experience on stage?
On my first tour with Two Man in SLC I completely forgot how to play one of the songs and I just stood on stage like an idiot as the rest of the band played.
Tell us something about each member that you think people would be surprised about?
I think sometimes people (especially younger fans) are surprised that everyone in the band listens to a very wide range of music, we’re not all just blasting punk rock 24/7. I remember giving some kids a ride home in the van after a show, years ago, and I put the Smiths on. They all looked shocked and a little disappointed. One of them said to me “You like this stuff?”
If you had to describe your band to an alien how would you describe them?
Hockey, beer, fun
Which one of the band is the most unpredictable and why?
Coach is pretty unpredictable with his funny one liners.
Which one of the band is the biggest nightmare? (Just a bit of fun)
I would say me because I live 300 miles away from everyone else so a lot of planning needs to be done around my schedule.
What’s your biggest achievement as a band?
I think being around for as long as we have with pretty much the same members is a huge achievement. The original bass player who I replaced in 2001 replaced me in 2014 and then I replaced him in 2018. That kind of just shows the bond we have as a band and I think that’s pretty impressive.
What makes you stand out as a band?
We wear hockey uniforms instead of spiked jackets.
What’s your favorite song to play live and why?
I think it depends on my mood but right now I’m loving Had a Dream About Hockey. It’s a fun one to play and it’s a great sing along song.
What was the recording process like?
I think we sound best when we record live. For Dynasty we recorded all of the music live. Each song is a take, no punch ins. If someone messed up we did it again. I think it really captures the energy of the band better than everyone going into the booth by themselves and then a producer nitpicking every little note. I’m sure if you just listened to my bass tracks on that album you would hear mistakes but when you listen to the album as a whole it sounds great. It’s punk rock it’s not supposed to be click track perfect it needs to have energy and groove.
Would you change anything now it’s finished?
I wouldn’t. I love that record.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
Well I’m moving even further away from the rest of the guys in the band so we’re going to need to figure that out but hopefully more shows and possibly a 7” release.
