RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW ARROWE

Hiya arrowe, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.

Thanks for joining us today…

Tell us a bit about where you are from and how you got into music?

  • Becca: I grew up playing music and going to the theatre so I guess it was always kind of inevitable. I always watched high school musical growing up as well!
  • Norlan: I suppose like Becca I’ve always just kinda grown up around music but I think my earliest memory of playing music was when I was 6 just after christmas and we had left over chocolate tins. I turned them upside down on my bed while I sat on the floor hitting them with some wooden spoons from the kitchen. My parents didn’t seem too happy with it but I suppose they couldn’t have been too mad as a few years later I received my first real drum kit for my birthday.
  • dre: I started my music interest in secondary, it was a sort of safe haven for me and my friends and we will start learning instruments for the fun of it. We all kind of learned different instruments and then formed a band, I learned how to perform and from there I was hooked. I always enjoyed music so being able to create my own means I can always listen to what makes me happy!
  • aysha: I started playing piano as a child, but stopped after a while. then when covid hit and we were all in lock down i picked it back up again and it was kind of an escape from everything else going on, i then started playing the guitar as well and kind of fell in love with the songwriting aspect as well and it’s just been that way since.

What’s the live music scene like in London right now?

  • It’s really exciting because there’s so much going on in London! There are so many opportunities for up and coming artists so there are plenty of chances to play live and connect with people which is great.

Anyone we should be looking out for (bar you, of course)?

  • Thanks For The Help, they’re a new indie duo and their music is absolutely incredible & Sisters of Hysteria, they’re a riot girl punk band who are so much fun to see live and they’re also great friends of ours!

Do you think it’s easy to become a victim of our surroundings sometimes?

  • Yeah we think so, circumstances and our environment can definitely impact how we see the world and how we treat ourselves and others.

What are your ambitions for the band?

  • World tour baby!! But on a serious note just being able to continue to write and play music together and hopefully travel and do this full time would be the dream.

What’s your view on the Music industry today?

  • It’s sad to see grass root venues struggling although it’s nice to see how everyone is banding together in support. We hope for the future that music becomes more accessible for young artists as there’s some incredible people out there still yet to be discovered.

What’s your thoughts on AI generated music?

  • We don’t think AI should be used in music creation. It removes the soul out of music because it’s not personal, which defeats the purpose of writing music because the whole point of it is to connect with people and removing the emotional aspect of it just renders it pointless.

What’s the biggest thing you have learned recently as you progress with your music?

  • Always be prepared, things can and will go wrong so expect the best and prepare for the worst.

What’s currently in your ears and on rotation at the moment?

  • between the four of us, DJO, Unreal on Earth by Hozier, The Outsiders Soundtrack (Becca), And I’d Do It Again by Only the Poets, daydreamers (Aysha), Love, Damini by Burna Boy, Work of Art by Asaki (Dre), Violet by L.S. Dunes and Paramore by Paramore (Norlan) is currently what we’re listening to!

What’s the funniest thing that’s happened on stage

  • The funniest moment on stage would have to be when Aysha was queuing up the next song to play, however it was one that we didn’t have the backing track sorted for yet. As she did this dre lent over her and switched it off and I think this went back and forth about 3 or 4 times before we managed to start the song without the queues.

I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?

  • Our debut single, ‘it’s all good’ came out a month ago!! It’s quite a personal song to us that focuses on struggling with mental health that kind of takes a more ironic approach to masking emotions and pretending things are fine when they’re not. We hope it resonates with people as we feel it is quite a common experience and we hope it can make people feel maybe a little less alone.

What was the recording process like?

  • It was great to be in such a creative environment with everyone and it honestly felt like everything just clicked into place.

Would you change anything now it’s finished?

  • Honestly not really, we think that everything we’ve done in the production is how we wanted it to sound.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

  • Listen to DJO, support the arts, be kind to each other & never be afraid to ask for help!
