What was life like for you before you got into music?
Astral Rocks – The International Voice from Aargau, Switzerland
I’m Milli Schweizer, a British-Swiss artist currently residing in Aargau, Switzerland, and I’m the voice behind Astral Rocks. Originally from Yorkshire, England, I wear many hats, not only as a musician but also as a published author. My journey has faced major challenges, including overcoming a life-threatening illness and surviving a devastating car accident in 2017. These experiences have significantly influenced my voice and artistic perspective.
My music carries a profound emotional weight and a cinematic quality that mirrors my personal experiences. While I might still be considered an insider tip outside Switzerland, I am not new to the scene. I have attracted attention from platforms like the BBC, and my songs have been played on international radio stations. I’m delighted that London FM, New York Digital FM, and over 130 indie stations around the world have embraced my music, and I’ve enjoyed some fantastic interviews and reviews along the way.
“These epics, touching, and melodic songs are now playing around the clock on the playlist + with a special.”
My sound has also made its way across the Atlantic. For example, Radio New York FM.digital recently wrote:
“Milli Schweizer’s touching tracks now on New York FM Digital’s A-List Playlist.”
What was your most memorable experience on stage?
One of my most moving moments was singing A Father’s Cry. The audience fell completely silent, and afterwards, so many people told me they had tears in their eyes, as many have friends in similar situations. To me, that’s the power of music, when you can create a shared emotional space that feels healing.
What was your worst experience on stage?
Once the sound completely cut out during a live performance. For a second, I froze, but then I just sang a cappella until the system came back. In the end, the crowd actually loved it, sometimes imperfection makes things more real.
Tell us something about you that people might be surprised by.
I’m not only a musician, I’m also an author. My debut novel, Whispers from the Deep, was published on 14.09.25. It’s a cosy mystery set in Neuchâtel Lake, Switzerland, where the daily lives of skippers living on their boats throughout summer are filled with humour, friendship, and local gossip. Beneath that easy-going surface, a serial killer cosy mystery begins to unfold, drawing the reader into the secrets of the lake.
And something many people don’t know: on my mother’s side, my family is from Austria. They helped establish the brass band Isopp in the Gurktal Valley more than 175 years ago, and that tradition still endures today. On my father’s side, I have Hungarian roots that inspired my latest single Budapest, I’m Finally Home. Living in Switzerland brings it all together: the lakes, the mountains, and a sense of belonging that runs through both my music and my writing.
hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?
Yes! My latest single is “Why War.”
I wrote “Why War” to pose a simple question: why do we keep fighting when peace is possible?
“Why War” is my emotionally charged cinematic rock piece addressing injustice and the unnecessary loss we accept in a brutal world. I ask why we still fight when peace is within reach. The song tells of a mother who has lost everything to war and knows that life shouldn’t be like this. Musically, I fuse atmospheric rock with orchestral textures, heartfelt vocals, and layered harmonies. For me, it’s more than a song – it’s a plea for peace and compassion.
Musically, it combines atmospheric rock and orchestral elements, with emotive vocals and layered harmonies. More than just a song, it is a plea for peace and compassion.
You also have a major symphonic project coming up — can you tell us about it?
Astral Rocks to Premiere “Gotthard – Heartbeat of the Mountains” in Andermatt, Switzerland
On November 22, 2025, Astral Rocks (Milli Schweizer) will premiere her new single “Gotthard – Heartbeat of the Mountains” in Andermatt, Switzerland, before an audience of 700 invited VIP guests from around the world.
The premiere is part of the larger cultural project Gotthard Connects, whose mission is to give our waters a voice and celebrate the Gotthard as the “Water Castle of Europe.”
Musically, the piece is a pioneering blend of Swiss tradition and contemporary cinematic rock. Featuring classical instruments such as the alphorn and Büchel instruments, it is the first of its kind to combine these with powerful rock arrangements. It captures both the natural heritage of the Alps and the emotional urgency of safeguarding water as life’s most vital resource.
What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?
To trust vulnerability. Sometimes I felt too exposed sharing personal stories in my songs, but I’ve learned that honesty is exactly what listeners connect with.
How do you manage engagement on your socials?
I try to keep it genuine. I respond to people personally whenever I can, and I enjoy sharing behind-the-scenes moments. After my interview with Radio Febbre in Lugano on 11.09.25, I was flooded with messages from listeners around the world who said they were brought to tears. That connection feels more valuable than numbers.
What’s your view on the music industry today?
It’s challenging, independent artists have to wear many hats: creator, manager, marketer. But at the same time, there has never been so much freedom. We can reach people directly, bypassing old structures, and that gives space for true voices to be heard.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with the world?
What runs through all my music and writing is the search for identity, the courage to face brokenness, and the freedom to rise stronger. I’ve already written and composed over 30 songs, which will be released every six weeks over the coming year. Alongside my music, I just published my debut novel, “Whispers from the Deep,” and next year I will bring out my memoir, “Raised by Cold Hands”
But “Raised by Cold Hands” will be more than just a book. I am also adapting it into a full-stage musical, weaving 27 of my own songs into each chapter of my life. I love composing across various styles, from rock ballads to gospel, and next year will be a year of launching it all. With “Why War” reaching the world, “Gotthard – Heartbeat of the Mountains” debuting in Switzerland, and my two books opening new opportunities, I feel this is just the start of a much larger journey, one where every step transforms life’s struggles into something beautifully unique and creative.
