RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW AVA VALIANTI

Hiya Ava, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.

It seems like being a social media curator has become added to the many jobs of a musician, how do you feel about this?

I’d say that this is a very common thing nowadays, and it’s definitely a lot to manage as an artist. I personally find the self-promotion aspect to be hard, as well as fully putting myself out there on the internet as a teenage musician. I do enjoy creating my own brand and finding fans through the things I post! But it’s a bit scary sometimes because you have to be vulnerable in lots of ways when promoting music, and also get people to take an interest in you at the same time. It’s hard, but it’s something I want to master and enjoy more as I continue through my career!

What’s your view on the Music industry today?

I personally think that we’re at a time of huge growth in the industry right now, and that so many amazing voices are being heard. It’s always been a tough industry, but with social media opening up the window to new possibilities for small artists, and in a time where complex lyrics and catchy tunes go hand in hand, we’re hearing so many unique musical stories! That really excites me, and I only hope that I can get my foot in the door at this time in music so I can tell my story, because I think that the way I make music compliments the current landscape.

What’s the biggest thing you have learned recently as you progress with your music?

I’ve learned quite a lot recently while writing! Something in particular that I’ve had to come to terms with is that nothing will ever be perfect, so I can’t put so much pressure on myself when I write and create. The joy of creation for me is that I’m doing something to express myself, and when I’m upset that one lyric doesn’t fit quite right, or the melody isn’t catching yet, it dampens my creativity and passion. If I give myself the space, time, and freedom to make mistakes and keep trying, I’ll eventually make a good song and be happier when I do. First drafts never have to be final, and they’re not meant to be.

I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?

I do! I have a new single, Laugh Track, out April 4th! It’s one of my favorite songs I’ve ever made, and working on this in the studio was just pure fun for me! I’m so immensely proud of everything about this song, from the production to the meaning behind it to the vocal track! My producers did incredible work on Laugh Track, and it’s quite possibly my favorite song I’ve written to date. I can’t wait for you all to hear it!

What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?

I’d say that when writing my most recent batch of songs, the learning curve came when editing entered the picture. Some songs needed to be edited down and made more clear, but I didn’t know where to start. I learned to figure out what lyrics gave the song its identity versus what needed to be strengthened, and I think that’s a skill that I’ll continue to take with me into the songwriting world going forward!

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

Thank you so much for reading this! Laugh Track is out everywhere 4/4, with new singles on the way! I have a release event for my new song at Charlie’s Kitchen in Cambridge on 4/5, so make sure to stop by! Thanks again!
