BARELY STRANGERS

RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW BARELY STRANGERS WHAT HAPPENED?

Hiya Barely Strangers thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.

What made you decide that music is a thing for you?

When we realized that music is the only thing worth getting out of bed for.

Introduce us to you all and your musical history.

Pat: Manchester bloke who writes tunes; Sam: London lad who makes noise, now causing a racket in Manchester.

What’s the live music scene like in (Manchester) right now? Anyone we should be looking out for? Manchester’s music scene is always kicking off—The Goa Express are worth a listen if you’re into that sort of thing.

I’ve seen a lot of people struggling for support recently online. What’s your view on the industry?

The industry’s a circus, mate, and we’re all just trying to find the best ride.

Where do you feel you currently sit within the music industry?

Somewhere between ‘Who?’ and ‘Oh, think I might know them!’

Tell us Two truths and a lie about you.

We’ve played for cows, had a jam with McCartney, and Sam eats cucumbers like bananas—guess which one’s bollocks.

Do you ever worry about people taking things the wrong way or cancel culture? Discuss…

We make music, not statements—if people don’t get it, that’s their problem, not ours.

Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories? If not, why not?

Scientology! Well say no more, no less…

What was your best experience on stage?

Mosh pit with my grandma in it.

What was your worst experience on stage?

We had reviewers come down to a gig, one song we played all the way through with the guitar in one key and the bass playing in another. Disaster…

Tell us something about each member that you think people would be surprised about.

Pats are not to shabby at cooking, and Sam’s can do an alright cha cha cha.

What are the next steps you plan to take as a band to reach the next level?

Keep playing, keep writing, and let the rest sort itself out.

I hear you have new music, what can you tell us about it.

It’s a bluesy indie rock tune trying to leverage old-school sounds.

What was the recording process like?

A bit chaotic, a bit brilliant—just how it should be. All done in our basement, we live down there.

What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?

Figuring out that the best ideas come at 3 AM with a bit too much carona 0% and aperol spritz.

Would you change anything now it’s finished?

There’s always something, but at some point, you just have to let it be. We’re trying to do that more.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

Listen to the music—everything else is just noise.
