CHERRY I

RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW CHERRY I

Hiya Cherry i, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.

What made you decide that music is a thing for you?

Nikol:

My sister breaking up with her boyfriend and the introduction of Damien Rice into my life.

Introduce us to you all and your musical history.

Nikol:

So The band was started by Me (lead vox, second guitar) and Nastya (lead guitar, backing vox) During a tumultuous period in our lives, I had orchestrated for Nastya to come live with me and my family for a bit. She agreed, even though I had only met her a handful of times. And so, with her in an enclosed space and no other entertainment options, I tricked her into starting a band with me. Later we were joined by our bassist Slava.

What was your best experience on stage?

Nastya:

Playing the Windmill was a really great experience. Also doing a gig with Please Ban Music in Reading and opening for Pigeon Dog at The Old Blue Last, always cool to be on a bill with bands you like.

What was your worst experience on stage?

Nastya:

Maybe the time a certain gentleman came down from his flat above the pub we were playing at to come tell us to shut up? Yeah.

I hear you have a new music video that’s just come out. What can you tell us about it?

Nikol:

Filming Alaska was a crazy fun experience. Essentially I (Nikol) contacted Ben Pierce (Director) as I had seen some of his other work loved it. After showing him Alaska he came up with the idea of making it into a 90s style detective story with Alaska being the missing person in the investigation. After some planning the band travelled to Hastings and managed to film the video in just 2 days. This is taking into account the fact that storm Darragh doing it’s best to add to the mood. I was personally struck by how cool, professional and dedicated to the idea everyone on the team was. Very thankful to everyone who took part.

What was the recording process like?

Nastya:

We recorded the song in a very DIY way. The drums were tracked remotely in a studio by our friend in Germany, while the vocals were recorded in a studio here in London. Everything else was recorded at home with our bassist Slava and produced by me, and our friend Andriy handled the final mix and master, bringing it all together.

Tell us two truths and a lie about you.

The guitarist of Fontaines D.C. picked out our band name. We dedicated one of our songs to Thom Yorke. Our bassist got electrocuted by a microphone once so he never comes near em anymore.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

Yea! We’re opening for Lemondaze at Strongroom March 8th come!
