RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW COUSTI

Hiya ( Peter Lamb), thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.

What was life like for you before you got into music?

  • More sport orientated, heard a lot of background music, Elvis Presley was first artist I took seriously which started me off on a music career

What’s the live music scene like in (Glasgow) right now? Anyone we should be looking out for (bar you, of course)?

  • Glasgow music scene is vibrant and growing a lot, The group Violet Suns in Glasgow are runing high now and very good

It seems like being a social media curator has become added to the many jobs of a musician, how do you feel about this?

  • This can confuse me at my current age (75) hence I rely on younger family members. This could be off-puting for many older generation musicians to get their work out there

How do you manage engagement on your socials?

  • Posting my own stuff, but rely on help from others due tpo lack of social media awareness and experience

What’s your view on the Music industry today?

  • Hard to break into with original material, transition from cover bands to writing original material is hard for musicians to be heard

Where do you feel you currently sit within the music industry?

  • Independent Solo Artist since 2011

Whats the biggest thing you have learned recently as you progress with your music?

  • I have learned I need social media engagement, not required when only gigging 20 yrs ago

What was your best experience on stage?

  • First appearance at Belladrum , Inverness Scotland 2012

What was your worst experience on stage?

  • Turning up to a gig and told to pack up our gear 20 mins into set as we were doing original material and insufficient covers for that crowd

Tell us something about you / each member that you think people would be surprised about.

  • Write all my own music based on life experience , my 2nd last album was strongly based on my wife who sadly passed in 2019

I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?

  • Latest album is called Back to Back. Based again on life experience with laid back easy listening melodies

What was the recording process like?

  • Detailed and for first time rather than going into studio together from the start, each band contributor did their own parts at home and I took them all into the studio to do lead / backing vocals, mixing and mastering to get the final product

What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?

  • Being able to get music parts done by band members idependently meaning lower costs but high quality

Would you change anything now it’s finished?

  • Not really, as I spent a long time doing prep, writing all the songs and made clear to musicians what you needed from each part instrumentation wise

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

  • I wish I was 30 yrs younger and could reach out to the world more effectively and do more live gigs
