Hiya Da Twin Prince, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.
What made you decide that music is a thing for you?
I never decided it was actually I felt like it decided for me. I was always around music or creating music so it just was a part of me existing.
Introduce us to you all and your musical history.
Well , its just me , Da Twin Prince. I’m a solo songwriter, music artist , performer , creative and a self-proclaimed musical Genius lol. My grandmother raised me and I grew up around a lot of old school music like Al Greene , Temptations , Frankie Lymon. Then I had a older sister who was in love with Tevin Campbell so between the “Im Ready” album and the “Goofy Movie” soundtrack, I was locked in.
This was before I got into listening to gospel music and live music arrangements. I started banging on books and pans at a younger age , which eventually lead to me playing drums for my church. I always had a knack for writing though starting with little poems for girls I had a crush on and that eventually lead to me writing music. The first song that I wrote was a gospel rap from this church service for teens called club life and performed that at a talent show and won first place. After that I just knew performing was for me.
Aside from singing in the choir and drumming from church. I eventually joined a rap group in my neighborhood with two of my friends we called ourself 6 MAF. I eventually became a solo artist and been a solo artist since. I started with producing all of my tracks from scratch starting with instrumental then writing to the instrumental I created , then laying it down on my little laptop in fruity loops. The rest is history from there, I’ve grown into the artist I am today and continuously growing.
What’s the live music scene like in New York right now? Anyone we should be looking out for (bar you, of course)?
Well of course me to begin. The live scene is active depending on venue and style of music. It has been a few years since ive performed outside of live stream, but when I was outside it was alittle tough booking gigs even with a band because a lot of my music was on the rap side and venues automatically assumed it wasn’t a sound catered to the venue and didn’t book me so I had to rent out venues before they booked me and my band. But the locations are usually Lower East Side in Manhattan and Brooklyn
I’ve seen a lot of people struggling for support recently online. What’s your view on the industry?
I feel like ive always struggled on and offline as a artist , its just hard doing things indipendantly when you just want to create good music. Online you have to be more than a artist , you have to be a Entertainer , Dancer , Influencer just a bunch of things that drains and consume the artistry and time that goes into your music.
My views is the industry is what you make it. If you want fame and all that then you definitely have to conform to this presence online and maintain it or have someone help you with your social presence or marketing. I do feel like there is money to be made there which can be hard at first but when you get the hang of it can be lucrative
Where do you feel you currently sit within the music industry?
In the music industry I feel like its not just music so im adjusting right now with being a indie artist and indie creative. My last couple of songs since 2022 have all been recorded by me and all the content was shot and edited by me. I am still a indie artist but I am applying that to my creation of content that I shoot which I feel like will eventually lead to live stream music concerts I create and short films. I feel like ive always sat in the industry , mainstream indie experimental to set trends kind of artist.
Tell us two truths and a lie about you.
I danced Ballet , My Favorite genre of music is Rap , My favorite movie is Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Do you ever worry about people taking things the wrong way or cancel culture? Discuss….
I honestly was never the type to take peoples opinions offensive, its just an opinion. When you start to believe those things as facts that’s when it becomes an issue. These days I find people to be really sensitive with subject matter when before we would make light of opinions and situations with comedy.
Everything is politically correct or incorrect and everyone has these strong opinions that they believe is facts and are not open to willing to listen to other peoples opinion. Being cancelled because my values and beliefs are different from yours always seemed very ignorant and immature to me so I never fed into it.
We can both look at the sky and you can see pink while I see blue and that’s ok, it doesn’t change anything its still the sky. We out too much energy into confrontation instead of trying to understand and that’s the route of most of this cancel culture at times.
Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories? If not, why not?
Conspiracy theories have never been something I was interested in honestly. Nothing about it seems interesting to me.
What was your best experience on stage?
Wow ive had a few but im gonna go with one o the shows ending the last tour I was on. I did a show at a venue in Brooklyn and I remember being able to invite and add a few of my childhood artist friends who was still making music to come and perform with me. We all vibed out and it was just so epic, such a great feeling to see my peers and childhood friends sharing a stage with me.
What was your worst experience on stage?
Ahhh an Ive had a few but I would have to say my worst would be one of the most memorable ones. This is around the time I felt like exposure for me and a built fanbase came from doing showcases. Someone knew was putting on a showcase and they had a million and one people performing and literally forgot about me. I perfomed wjile people were leaving and I was just not feeling anything at that point being there for hours waiting and my supporters waiting there for hours. It just felt ghetto to me. After that I got a band and started booking my own shows.
Tell us something about you that you think people would be surprised about.
Everything about me personally should be surprising because my music is more storytelling and bars rather than my personality. I think people find it more so surprising at how humble and sweet I am. I’m really a gentleman my Grandmother raised a Brooklyn boy well. Ive never been to a strip club , I have no tattoos , I don’t curse in my conversations or really in general ( probably a song or two but that’s all) People get surprised at who I am compared to who they assume I am

What are the next steps you plan to take as a band to reach the next level?
Ive honestly been wanting to take the knowledge and resources I have at the moment and go back to my roots as artist when I was grinding harder. Right now I find myself creating more and editing more than doing shows and actually getting out there so more of a balance of all those things. A balance of being a limitless creative and a limitless music artist
I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?
Yes I do , I just released a single titled , “Real Nice” my first release of 2025. This project was the first ive put an actual budget and plan to in a while. All the visuals shot and edited by me on my iphone. The song was recorded on my ipad and sent out for mixing. Cover art shot by me also, just a great indie way to go about this song.
What was the recording process like?
The recording process was the same as my last few releases. I scroll Beat Stars website to find a instrumental that makes me wanna write without struggling and that was one. I definitely started with the melody which was the Talk To Me Nice flow in the chorus and just filled in the words. I recorded the entire project on my Ipad. I wish I knew how to mix I would’ve definitely attempted that also. After recording I found the engineer on fiver that mixed all my prior holiday music and they did a nice mix for me. After the final mix was approved I set it up with distribution through Ditto
What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?
Learning how to write not just to write but to make it more catchy and kind of marketable as a sound to use on social media.
Would you change anything now it’s finished?
Honestly I had an entire 90 day marketing plan and I put a budget towards a campaign through my distributor and I honestly feel like I could’ve took that I could’ve took that that budget made it digital marketing and the other and do something in person.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
Im just looking forward to having a actively growing and flourishing year as a artist. More money , more life , more collaborations and more love.
