Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.
What made you decide to start the band?
Jeff – Music is my favourite thing in the world and I can never just observe or listen, need to be involved, and I think we have more than a viable shot of making something happen if we can surround ourselves with the right people or have the right people believe in us. But being involved in music is slow torture.
Rennick – Revenge
Introduce us all to the members and your musical history?
Paul Rennick Drums, Former Kiss My Acid Drummer
Jeff O Guitar and Vocals, History Unknown
Watchy Bass player and have another band called “Stitch Jones” previously of “Val Normal”
What’s one question you’re sick of being asked when interviewed?
Jeff Any question where I’m on the record or within earshot of people that for one reason or the other stop me giving the answer to the fullest degree of the truth and having to dress it up a bit.
Paul Rennick Where were you on the night?
Watch If I know the singer out of Kodaline
Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories?
Jeff The JFK one is quite the obvious one that even a layman can understand and see how fucked it is. A lot of em require reaching and a bit and guesswork and I haven’t the time, interest or energy, but I’m sure some of em have merit. Oh and Newbridge is run by mole people.
Rennick Gucci Mane is a government clone
Watchy Chemtrails are powdered Illuminati spooge
Did you buy anything you don’t need in the pandemic?
Jeff Yeah a few props for the live show I haven’t figured a use for, and one or two books it turned out I really read on kindle.
Rennick Ballons and Party Hats
Watchy *sighs
What useless party trick do you have?
Jeff I can speak fluent Mandarin
Rennick Doing the dances out of Dirty Dancing
Watchy Can eat one of the giant Toblerones in under a minute
What was the most fun you have had on stage?
Jeff Probably either playing with Ugly Kid Joe in Belfast or with Pigs x7 in Belfast. Belfast has great crowds, the biggest crowds we have played to as well, has been a blast on both occasions.
Rennick Soap Girls Gig
Watchy Played a gig for the troops in an Irish Army barracks, and ran over two of the officer’s cars in a tank, great night
What was the worst experience on stage?
Jeff First time I went to turn my head and smile at Ricky and seen Watchy
Rennick Played Rebellion a few years ago and drumsticks flew out of my hands mid-song
Watchy I was in a wedding band that played the wrestler “Seamus” wedding and he did that kick move that is his finisher on me halfway through the set
Tell us something about each member that you think people would be surprised about?
Jeff From 3 till 17 was convinced I wanted to be a pro wrestler, then tried it and realised I should have had a plan B because I hated it. Also went to Nottingham at one stage to try to turn over and go pro in boxing but thought better of it after a few months.
Rennick Parents didn’t put me in playschool till I was 9, I ruled the place
Watchy That underneath my steely exterior is a boy just wanting to be loved, loved and drove everywhere
If you had to describe your band/music to an alien how would you describe it?
Jeff I’d describe the band as shit and the music as the best most original shit out there all be it with a singer who can’t sing.
Rennick Shit
Watchy What Rennick said, I think about quitting this band weekly if not daily.
What makes you stand out as a band?
Jeff I think we embrace chaos and disaster a lot more than the refined professionalism that so many seem to strive for, like I want things to get out of control and if possible will try engineer it, within reason and with full regard for human life of course.
Rennick Our looks and fashion sense and who are dads are
Watchy Looks longingly out the window
Right now, what’s pissing you off the most?
Jeff Outside of serious world issues, my gut, I was always in primo shape now everyone in the kebab shop knows me on first-name basis
Rennick Jeff, he’s a prick
What’s your favourite song to play live and why?
Jeff The ones with the least amount of vocals in em or where Watchy is doing vocals like I’m a guitar player and I like to rock out and jam rather than run back to the microphone. Either “Cants” cause the crowd engagement or “lies of omission” we end with that a lot and I get to just rip and groove on the outro
Rennick Cants probably
Watchy One of the songs from my other band “Stitch Jones”
I hear you have a new album, what can you tell us about it?
Rennick It’s good, buy it
Jeff It’s well rounded, it’s an actual album like the songs get to breathe, they get jammed out, unlike the last few Eps with short to-the-point songs, we experiment more, get more complicated, it’s an angry record. July 15th “All Pleasure Is Just Relief” buy it, stream it, love it.
Talk me through the thought process of the album?
Rennick Bangers like
Jeff Most of the songs, like most kids born are happy accidents, I just jam them out and go with what feels right and don’t fight it. But I did want this album to be heavier and more aggressive, music we write kinda mimics how we are feeling I find
What was the recording process like?
Jeff Pure torture, we are chronically underrehearsed and stumble into studio and eventually get there.
What was the biggest learning curve in writing the album?
Jeff That me and Rennick can go to war and argue daily and there is never any spillover. Also that I can play a bit of lead, and when I wanted to step up on guitar and technicality, Rennick stepped up as well.
Would you change anything now it’s finished?
Jeff Money always creates pressure when recording, perception could have been done better, there are a lot of one-takes on the album
What are your plans for the year ahead?
Jeff Get signed and give it all away
Rennick Get better gigs, supports, ideally some UK gigs
Watchy Potentially leave the band
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
Jeff: Yeah, love each other you A$$holes
