Hiya Echee, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today.
What made you decide that music is a thing for you?
It was always something I had in the back of my mind, being from where I’m from, from young when we was on the block just recording freestyles for fun on our phones to older people from the block releasing music videos early on YouTube it was always something I thought yeah I can do that.
Introduce us to you all and your musical history.
Echee, from Bethnal Green, East London. Obviously being from east early days it was always the grime mc’s that I looked up to naturally, this probably where it started but by the time I hopped in an actual booth myself it was on a real rap wave, inspired more so by American artist because that’s what I would listen to mostly but still with a heavy London influence. 2021 was my first official release but even then it wasn’t on a serious one it was more so people around me telling me take it serious because they could see the potential before me. From then it’s been stop/start-ish but last year was when I decided let me lock in and do this thing properly.
What’s the live music scene like in (ADD YOUR TOWN/CITY) right now? Anyone we should be looking out for (bar you, of course)?
Where I’m from Bethnal Green there’s no representation in the music scene, there is no scene. Comes with pros and cons because while there’s lack of help or people with experience to guide me with certain things it also means I’ve got a whole story to tell from my perspective.
I’ve seen a lot of people struggling for support recently online. What’s your view on the industry?
I see this topic a lot, I agree to an extent but at the same time I feel like it’s the same with everything what you put in you get out, if you know your cold and stay consistently in peoples faces they’re gonna have no choice but to take you in, you just gotta have faith in your own ting and stay working
Where do you feel you currently sit within the music industry?
Right now I feel like it’s the new underground sound, the underground rappers who ain’t even watching too tough what’s going on in the industry more so just worried about delivering good music for whoever messes with it, when you start conforming for what you think the industry wants that’s when you lose yourself
Tell us two truths and a lie about you.
First truth would probably be I’m a serious YouTube head I can’t lie, I spent hours probably days watching videos on there all sorts as-well, second truth would be I feel like if I really went hard at it I could have made a little career playing football. And a lie, boy I don’t even lie you know straight facts I tell!!!!
Do you ever worry about people taking things the wrong way or cancel culture? Discuss….
Not really, same way I said about the industry earlier, you can’t be distracted by outside noise, you just gotta stay grinding stay working, as long as your doing them two things how can you be cancelled no one can control your work rate, the internet will always be the internet one day they might love you one day hate you either way you can’t take it personal just gotta do you.
Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories? If not, why not?
Not really, I used to be heavy into all sorts of conspiracy theories but then you just send yourself mad so now I just live life don’t even think too deep about certain things, especially things you can’t change.
What was your best experience on stage?
Still yet to touch stage, I’m excited though when I finally do I feel like that’s when it’s like yeah this is real now.
What was your worst experience on stage?
Tell us something about you / each member that you think people would be surprised about.
I’m a real life sneaker/fashion head, not no hypebeast I got deeper knowledge when it comes to kicks and clothes
What are the next steps you plan to take as a band to reach the next level?
Its all about consistency now, especially in this social media era just gotta be posting content everywhere so people got no choice but to acknowledge you
I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?
Heartless, I really like this one I can’t lie, I feel like this one gonna help me excel to the next level it’s just relatable to people from all walks of life but especially people coming from the type of environments that I come from
What was the recording process like?
This was a result of a long night session with my engineer R.L my process in the studio is super quick more time I come with an idea for a song certain beat already before I get there and then when I’m there it’s straight to work lay the idea down fill in what needs to be done my whole recording and writing process is quite quick I feel like if you’re taking too long and overthinking it your better on just moving on to a fresh idea and coming back to it later, most of the time I can have a song done in like half hour.
What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?
Probably being more effective with ad libs you know, before I used to always overthink them now I just go with however I’m feeling and it can proper make a difference to the feel of the song
Would you change anything now it’s finished?
Not really I feel like whenever I have an idea and link R.L I always feel like I leave with the song sounding exactly how I imagined
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
Just that 2025 your gonna be seeing a whole lot of me man, loads of content loads of music everything it’s about to be Echee season I ain’t coming to take part im coming to take over, pressure!
