RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW EDEN DAWN

Hiya Eden Dawn, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.

Thanks for joining us today… Tell us bit about where you are from and how you got into music?

I’m from Plymouth, I’ve always had music in my life with what my parents and older brothers listened to but I started creating my own music in 2020 during the lockdown, I was made redundant from my job at the time and had nothing else to do so I spent every day playing around on Logic Pro X until I got the hang of it and then released my first EP in June that year.

What’s the live music scene like in Plymouth right now?

It’s great, could be better as always but Plymouth has a very big punk and metal scene and I’m right next door to one of the best venues for local music in my area. I tend to only local at metal and hardcore gigs currently which may be surprising with the music I create, but there are also lots of fantastic artists of all sorts of genres who have quite a few local venues to play at.

Anyone we should be looking out for (bar you, of course)?

I played a gig just before the new year with Kitty Crocker who is amazing, but there was another artist at that same gig called Faye who has the most beautiful voice, she was incredibly talented and definitely deserves more eyes on her.

Do you think it’s easy to become a victim of our surroundings sometimes?

Yes, especially when you’re creatively blocked. I think surrounding yourself with other artists and different genres is the best thing to do and can help you produce music that is unique with many different influences. But when you’re blocked it can make you quite cynical and send you spiraling.

What are your ambitions?

Life has gotten in the way for me recently, my track ‘Milk and Honey’ was ready a year ago and I haven’t written anything since. Releasing this was me pushing myself to get back in the game and start releasing more again. My goal is to release an EP by the end of the year.

Whats your favourite social media platform to use and why?

Honestly, TikTok. I spend hours scrolling on there and it’s a terrible habit but if you use it right it’s very easy to go viral, I recently had a video get half a million views, the only thing is you need to have thick skin because those commenters can be pretty intense.

We believe its essential to have a presence on Facebook, Instagram and X to introduce yourself to all the different types of audiences out there, what’s your thoughts on that?

I think it’s the exact right way to brand yourself, although finding the time to post can be tough.

What’s your view on the Music industry today?

Tough, it’s a very saturated industry now as access to making music has become easier, you don’t need a lot of money to record and produce a song and anyone can do it. Songs need to be attention grabbing too which the age of scrolling that we’re in. Although it is also so much easier to get yourself out there with social media, sometimes all you need is a bit of luck and consistency.

Whats your thoughts on AI generated music?

Terrible. AI was supposed to be a tool to assist and help us but now it’s taking over completely. It just feels like music with no soul and music with no soul isn’t music.

Whats the biggest thing you have learned recently as you progress with your music?

I take myself too seriously. The songs I’ve released recently are songs that came very naturally and songs I had fun with! Play is the most important thing for any creative.

What’s currently in your ears and on rotation at the moment?

Bruce Springsteen.

What was the recording process like?

I recorded this track in one take because I had a few others I wanted to record in a one hour slot (most are scrapped projects now), I was very nervous recording this and being aware other people could hear me and I liked the way it turned out, it adds to the intimacy of the song.

Would you change anything now it’s finished?

Always but I know I can’t so I try not to dwell on it.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

Don’t take things so seriously and enjoy what you do.
