What was life like for you before you got into music?
I’ve always been into music my whole life, so there hasn’t been a time where I wasn’t interested in the industry. I have, however, spent some time in elementary and middle school doing other extracurriculars like sports. I never really knew what I wanted to do, but in recent years, through activities like musical theater and listening to a more diverse variety of music, I know I want to be an artist. I have a very supportive family who have always backed me up on all of my endeavors.
What’s the live music scene like in Omaha? Anyone we should be looking out for?
To be honest, I haven’t explored it much because I’m just starting out. I’ve been looking to get more into it, but everyone I have met so far is really genuine and talented. One person I can point out is Shannon Griffey. She’s a fantastic guitar player and singer and has helped me a lot on my own journey.
It seems like being a social media curator has become added to the many jobs of a musician, how do you feel about this?
It’s a lot more work, but it can also be very rewarding. It provides you with a global reach and can be a very helpful tool to get more exposure. It definitely has added a lot of challenges as well, because of the larger competition, but it really does help when you engage with the right people and utilize it in the best way possible.
How do you manage engagement on your socials?
I try to create engaging content and use things that are trending to get a boost while also including a personal twist on things. I want my content to be intriguing to people. Again, my family also helps with my social media, so it has been a good tool for me to get more people exposed to my music.
What’s your view on the Music industry today?
I feel it’s easier to get your name out there, but with so much content, it’s hard to keep people focused on yours. There’s so many artists now, and less individuality, which can make it difficult for starting musicians to find their place and make a name for themselves. Social media has had its perks, but also its challenges.
Where do you feel you currently sit within the music industry?
My song, “Golden Mirror”, is my first single. I am really just starting out and I still have so much to learn. My engagement is very localized so far. I have a long road ahead of me, but I truly believe and hope that it will be a prosperous one.
What’s the biggest thing you have learned recently as you progress with your music?
You cannot just make a song and expect it to immediately do well because that is an unrealistic outlook. Music takes time, and so do the results. I have also learned that not everybody will like what you put out, as everybody likes and dislikes different things. Finally, I have learned how important individuality is and I’ve been working on setting myself aside from everyone else.
What was your best experience on stage?
I don’t have much stage/live performance experience, but I am active in musical theater. I absolutely love it, there’s so many specific choices to choose from, but overall my best experience on stage would be performing as Grandma Addams in the Addams Family at my school.
What was your worst experience on stage?
My worst experience on stage would be a moment where I was Grandma. On the second night of the performance, there was an accident during bows, where I caught a bouquet and it cut me. I started bleeding on stage. It was an interesting moment that I will remember forever, but definitely not my best experience.
Tell us something about you / each member that you think people would be surprised about.
I think people would be surprised by the fact that most of my life I’ve been a really shy person. I would have never thought in a million years I’d be releasing a song that exposes myself to the public. Recently, I have been working on becoming more outgoing, and the experience of releasing a song has aided in that.
I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?
Golden Mirror is my first song I’ve ever seen completely. It’s the first one where I’ve fully committed to making it. It can be up to interpretation to the listener what the song means, but when I wrote it, I was thinking about the fact that my anxiety can hold me back from doing the things I love. This song recognized how my anxiety consumes me, and I feel some people could really relate to that.
What was the recording process like?
It was my first experience ever being in a recording studio. I had been wanting to record a song for so long, so when I was finally involved in piecing my own song together, it was a truly amazing experience. Scott Gaeta, my producer, did a really good job. It was so fun getting to be immersed in the creation of it and learning how everything worked.
What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?
There was a lot of learning curves since it was my first time. It was difficult trying to put my feelings into lyrics, but in the end I figured out what I wanted to say. I had a lot of help learning how to format the song from my guitar teacher. Overall, I’ve been able to translate the knowledge I have gained to more songs I’m currently writing.
Would you change anything now it’s finished?
I don’t think I would, honestly. I’m really proud of what I created, and even if there are faults, I believe that is what music is about. I think I’d like to keep my song as it is to show how I improve with future releases.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
