Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.
What made you decide that music is a thing for you?
I found comfort and escape in music at a very young age. I started playing the piano and writing songs at the age of 6. I always had this dream of becoming a musician and artist, expressing myself through art. Seeing inspiring idols doing that at a young age, it just lit a spark in my soul that has never faded. It continued because I always found freedom from everything through my expression and continued to dance, sing, play music and write. I am still constantly inspired by other artists in the industry and their incredible work, they also remind me of why I wanna do what I do.
Introduce us to you and your musical history.
My name is Scharliina, I am a 22-year-old artist, actress, songwriter, producer, and model. I started writing music at a young age and had my first album done by the age of 13. I usually wrote my songs alongside my piano. I started to release music professionally together with a pop duo in Sweden called ¨¨Lightworkers¨ together with my best friend Linnea Persson. We released pop/house music and had shows together around Sweden. 2021 I debuted as a solo artist with my single “Running”. It was my first time producing, and I decided to go all in. I wrote, produced and recorded the entire track. As a writer, singer, producer and performer I use my intuition to channel my deepest emotions and burdens into art to transform and transmute it to something beautiful. It is a way for me to cope with everything I have experienced and are constantly experiencing as a human.
What’s one question you’re sick of being asked when interviewed?
How are you feeling haha? It’s a very weird question, and sometimes I don’t really know how to answer. Because its hard to express how you are feeling in one or few words. Usually, life feels a lot more complicated and deeper than that. Every second a new emotion and thought is going through the cells of my body.
We set up RGM USA and many other countries in the world to share music with america and the UK, good idea?
Amazing idea!
Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories?
I would not say I believe in any specific conspiracy theories although I love watching things and having conversations with people that make me question what I believe in. My favorite movie is called ¨arrival¨¨ Its about aliens coming here to teach us a new language where time isn’t linear. It truly makes me question how we see time, our past and our future. I would consider myself a spiritual person and believe that we as humans are eternal souls having a temporary human experience. If that is considered a conspiracy theory, I sign up.
Did you buy anything you don’t need in the pandemic?
No, I actually started investing in things I really needed in order to level up in my music career. Like a good computer and equipment for my home studio.
What useless party trick do you have?
I’m good at pretending to be drunk while being completely sober lol.
What was the most fun you have had on stage?
When I headlined miss supranational 2021, at Periscope in Tampere, Finland. The location was at an incredible rooftop, after a long year with covid. Seeing people, having a fun set, singing, dancing, and performing great songs, and for the first time my own solo songs. It was just incredible.
What was the worst experience on stage?
When I was performing live in Helsinki, my music wouldn’t work. It just sounded like a terrible sound storm and the sound guy couldn’t do anything about it. I wasn’t able to play any of the songs I had planned- like my own songs but had to improvise completely with some random cover songs I had put on my USB stick. But it turned out ok.
Tell us something about you that you think people would be surprised about.
Fun fact: I’ve played the lead in commercials for brands like: Volkswagen, McDonald’s and others.
I love to be connected to nature and spend time without my phone, it makes me feel really grounded. I have a hard time dealing with social media sometimes. Because I feel less connected and more stressed. Also, it feels like for me personally I’ve come to learn that it usually feeds my ego more than my soul.
If you had to describe your music to an alien how would you describe it?
Using my music as a therapy tool. I tell deeply personal stories. Usually writing most songs intuitively, music is my connection to my soul. When releasing each single, I feel like a huge burden is taken off my shoulders, and my reality shifts. The songs are pop/singer-songwriter in case you have those genres in space. And I also hope to help and inspire others with my raw and honest stories. My greatest wish is that my music might help others heal or cope with their own pain.
What makes you stand out as an artist?
My music and the personal stories I share. Also, have a broad outlook on things and can do many things in the industry. As an artist, singer, songwriter, producer, dancer, actress, and model. I can use those skills in many ways at all times. Also being both introverted and extroverted has its benefits.
Right now, what’s pissing you off the most?
Any inequality.
What’s your favourite song to play live and why?
I would say that my pop duo Lightworkers’ song ¨¨bad habit¨ is really fun and exciting to play live because I get to dance and truly put on a show with that one. Then I love performing all my own songs equally. They all have had such a big impact on my life with their deep and personal stories. So whenever I get to perform this, I feel free to share whatever it is that made me write that song.
I hear you have new music, what can you tell us about it?
Yes, I just released my new single called ¨Maybe¨ 11/8-2022. Maybe is a powerful, deep, and hopeful pop ballad and can be found on all platforms.
Talk me through the thought process of the single.
It’s been a long process. I wrote the song 2 years ago in a studio in Helsingborg when I had my last show together with my pop duo “Lightworkers”. Whilst also being in intensive therapy recovering from a serious eating disorder. This message becomes very clear in the song when I’m talking about inner wars and battles. But the song represents and carries a lot of hope. Because I wrote it when help finally came to my rescue and I was finding my lost parts and learning to love myself. That is why making the song very ethereal was important for me- With many choirs, violins, and powerful drums. The song gave me a lot of hope and strength in what I was going through, I used to listen to it alone at night when battling with my own thoughts. And it reminded me that I had something I could always love about myself even on tough days- my music. The song and its message go out to anyone who has struggled with an inner war, battle, or addiction of any sort.
What was the recording process like?
The song has been in the making for almost 2 years, with 3 different producers all of us from different countries: Adrian X- from Canada, Swedish Tim Norell – known artistically as ¨Mydo¨ and Me, living in Finland. I recorded the first demo of the song together with Tim in Sweden 2020 whilst also living in Sweden myself. But the rest was recorded in Finland and produced, mixed, and mastered in Canada.
What was the biggest learning curve in writing the single?
Collaboration is so fun. It makes for a good end result. It has been very fun to work on a project where I get the insight of other people rather than just doing it all on my own. I also learned to step out of my comfort zone and not be so critical and perfectionistic of my own singing voice.
Would you change anything now it’s finished?
I would maybe want to make an acoustic and/or more upbeat version of it. But I would not change anything about its end results.
What are your plans for the year ahead?
Hopefully, I can write and release a lot of music. I have plans to book more shows to be able to share my music with everyone. But Acting has been a huge focus in my life lately and this last summer. I have a few more movies and tv series to shoot this fall, but in the upcoming year all of the projects I’ve participated in will be released. I’m really excited for people to see what I’ve been working on artistically as an actress as well and I hope that it will bring exciting changes and opportunities along as well.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
Alongside my single little girl which I released earlier this year 6/5-22 I created a nonprofit organization called little girl project. Where I aim to bring awareness and change to our society regarding child abuse- mentally, physically, and sexually. You can find a website and help sections here at:
