What was life like for you before you got into music?
There some sort of connection with music that I cannot explain ever since I was young, although I feel something special when I either listen to musical sounds or when creating my own music. Even from my earliest days of existence on this earthly realm, even the places where I would go in life and whether that is a shopping mall or a restaurant, I would always be interested in the songs that were played in the background.
I think there’s something supernatural that occurs with my soul and the very fabrics of soul music that also connects me with the universe as well spiritually, and this made me definitively feel to pursue a career in music. What’s even more weird in a good way that is, I loved music and the style of music that sing today ‘RnB/Soul’ long before I knew I could sing. It was like this journey or way of life was destined for me, and then years later I would be able to develop the ability to sing where I could then manifest my joy of music into reality by later being able to sing and pursue a career in music.
What’s your view on the Music industry today?
I don’t have any particular influences, although I’ve been heavily influenced by the charm of the 90s RnB era of music, and my new single that’s out ’Unbreakable’ improvises from the sound of that era, and that’s especially the neosoul sound that is inventing itself again in certain styles for the sound of today’s music. I also appreciate the style of clothing around that time, as well as the soulful sounds in the music which must have made it feel like it was a special time to be alive in the music business.
Where do you feel you currently sit within the music industry?
I have improvised my music from that era of nostalgic timeless sounds, which has inspired me to incorporate those sounds and instrumentation into my own music and will continue to do so with my next songs. I would like to say that I’ve got a smooth and calming voice with a lot of soulfulness, and this intertwines well with the style of music that I sing as well which is the soul music.
I have also developed more of an interest into the neosoul lane of music, and I look forward to working on future projects with this neosoul concept. The Lofi and soulful sounds that generate from this style of music including the chilled tempos of those track really resonate well with my style of writing, and the melodies that I also produce with my voice whilst writing complement and align naturally when working on the tracks.
What’s the biggest thing you have learned recently as you progress with your music?
The biggest thing I have learned is that you have to set yourself apart as an artist and consider the thing that actually makes you different within the music scene. I didn’t want to try and fit in within the music industry to be recognised or write songs to fit in a trend. I think differently and would like to pursue music because I enjoy it and also write songs that resonate with me as a singer songwriter and from within the soul, where the words of the song flow naturally when I writing and creating news songs.
I have also learned as an aspiring musician that a career in music is difficult, although, I would say it is a process and so giving up is easy to do unless you can acknowledge that it takes times and skill to perfect your art. There’s going to be many hurdles along the way where you feel like giving up, and although it’s natural to feel this way, continue with the grind and you’ll see results at the end if you have that inner vision of the life you would like to create going forward.
What was your best experience on stage?
The best time I had was when I was at a show in London. I sang a set list of original songs, and it was like I could connect to the words of those songs as the words of those songs have been written by myself as an artist, and so there’s more emotion that can go into singing your own songs live as they’re essentially your story told through the song. I like to be authentic with my music, and so singing my own song live is a way to get that originality across to my fans.
I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?
This song has a movie feel to it, and would be amazing as a soundtrack in an inspirational film of an individual who has been through the most difficult times that you could go through in life. It is a song that inspires individuals to make it through the most challenging times taking you through a journey about a story of a warrior with an unbreakable spirit. Even when the task might seem insurmountable it is important to know that you yourself know it can be done. Plant the seed and let the generations that follow help shift the mindset of society in helping people to believe in themselves.
I have always had this heightened sense of faith and spirituality as an individual, and love to connect to this every so often to help guide me through the challenges of life. I have this feeling or sense of intuition that I am helped in ways that could not be understood or explained, although, the acknowledgement of certain synchronicities that appear every so often are almost like a signal to guide me on the path aligned to my soul.
My song ‘Unbreakable’ explains my journey to ‘Spiritual Enlightenment’ where an individual can truly live a life of fulfilment through understanding their own deeper truth of their very existence. The song also has that ‘movie soundtrack’ feel to it which would be fantastically suited to a film which is all about striving to pursue greatness amongst the adversities and obstacles that can be occurrent along the way to success.
I have always thought the universe as a mystery and awe that cannot be understood completely by the human mind, although I feel it has a way to help unravel the mysteries within an individual to help find a meaning within life, and feel that this incredible divinity is always there to support you through any obstacles of life.
And with this light, I have always tried to find out the meaning of ‘who am I’ and what the deeper truth of my existence actually is. I do love the fact that music itself is a platform to be able to share meaningful messages like this to express this Spirituality.
There are hurdles along the path of life, and to get to that pinnacle sometimes we have to look from the inner vision that has been called the third eye. Sometimes it is only ourselves that can see where we are going and what we need to do to be successful in life, and this can be the motivation to put the effort in to create a life that you thought only existed in dreams. I’ve always thought that you almost have to ‘dream’ or ‘create the vision’ in your mind first, and if it’s there it’s like you’ve already manifested it subconsciously and your subconscious mind is almost the universe favouring your courage to pursue this vision to fruition.
If you can see the end of the path from a higher ground, its only ever then about going through that path, and it might be that you have been diverted of course, although, if you listen beyond the noise then it is then you can hear what was there all along. I’ve always thought that if somebody else was able to do something amazing in life and pursue their goals that seemed amazingly difficult, then why would I then need to think that it’s impossible for me to be who I aspire to be.
Nothing is more important than knowing that you have the chance to lead your own journey in life, and to know that you are certainly not bound to anybody else’s ideologies of ‘how the correct way of life’ should be. We have the knowledge within to change our destiny and shift into a higher consciousness at any time if we changed our thoughts. This philanthropical song is my perception of life.
What was the recording process like?
This was an innovating process and actually the most fun I have had when writing and creating a new song, especially in certain parts of the song where the key starts to change. In those end part choruses there needed to be like a choir style sound to create more emotion and soul in the song in those parts. I think working with harmonies was incredible as the synergistic effect made the sound of the song in certain parts sound more emotional and soulful for the words of the song to feel more pronounced to get the meaning of the song across to fans with more significance.
Would you change anything now it’s finished?
I would not change Unbreakable, the song has been created the way it should be, and each part of song is perfectly placed to take you through an emotional journey of encouragement. If the song had the chance to be a soundtrack for a movie part where the struggle and strive led to the pursuit of an individuals goal, that would be amazing.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
It’s quite simple, I feel in alignment when I am doing anything with music whether that’s singing any popular cover songs or if it’s writing and creating my own music as well. I feel like I am living and doing what I am supposed to be doing, I also feel at ease and I have faith in knowing that I can make my goals a reality if I know that I am doing something that aligns with my soul path and purpose in life.
It’s amazing to do what you love doing in life, and if you can make that into your career, then that’s incredible. ‘ I have learnt that music needs to have this feeling to it, as this song did, and so I wanted to create my newest project in a similar way as I think it’s important to express your individuality and uniqueness through your songs. So, ultimately my goal as an artist is to continue to write quality new music and produce new fantastic songs continuously to help make RnB/Soul feel relevant within the music industry.
