RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW KAT MADLEINE

Hiya Kat Madleine, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.

Thanks for joining us today… Tell us bit about where you are from and how you got into music?

I’m based in Germany, in a beautiful area near the Black Forest. My journey into music wasn’t just a hobby; it was a deep dive.

I’m actually a trained Musicologist. I’ve always been obsessed with the “why” behind the songs—why certain melodies stay with us for decades while others fade. That academic curiosity eventually led me to my own production desk.

Whats the live music scene like in your area right now?

It’s a mix! We have a very strong traditional foundation here, but there’s a growing hunger for handmade, authentic Pop-Rock.

People are getting tired of over-processed sounds; they want to feel the strings and hear a real voice again.

Do you think its easy to become a victim of our surrounds sometimes?

Absolutely. Especially as an artist, it’s easy to mirror what’s “trending” in your immediate bubble.

I try to break out of that by looking back at the great songwriters of the 90s. Sometimes, to move forward, you have to look at what made music timeless in the first place.

What are your ambitions as a solo artist?

My main goal is to establish the concept of “Vocal Kinship.” I want to create music that feels like a conversation with an old friend.

International collaboration is a big part of my vision—I’m currently focusing on bridging the gap between the European and North American markets.

Whats your favourite social media platform to use and why?

Instagram is my playground. I love the visual storytelling aspect of it.

It allows me to show the “Musicologist” side of my brain through aesthetic deep-dives, while also sharing raw, acoustic snippets of my songs. It’s where my community lives.

We believe its essential to have a presence on Facebook, Instagram and X to introduce yourself to all the different types of audiences out there, whats your thoughts on that?

I agree, but with a focus on quality over quantity. Each platform needs a different „dialect.”

Facebook is great for deeper community building and long-form stories, while Instagram is about the immediate vibe. You have to meet people where they are, but stay authentic to your own voice.

Whats your view on the Music industry today?

It’s the Wild West! It’s never been easier to release music, but never harder to be heard.

I think we are seeing a shift back to “quality over speed.” Listeners are craving substance again, and as an independent artist, that’s my biggest opportunity.

Whats your thoughts on AI generated music?

It’s a tool, not a replacement. AI can help with technical tasks, but it lacks “soul” and “lived experience.“

An AI can’t feel the heartbreak of a long-distance relationship or the nostalgia of a childhood memory. That human friction is what makes a song a hit.

Whats the biggest thing you have learned recently as you progress with your music?

That “Structure creates Freedom.“

Coming from a professional marketing background, I’ve learned that having a solid strategy and a clear “Why” actually makes the creative process much more explosive and fun.

Whats currently in your ears and on rotation at the moment?

I’m currently revisiting a lot of Bryan Adams’ early 90s productions. The way those tracks are mixed—the clarity of the guitars and the grit in the vocals—is a massive inspiration for my current work.

I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?

My new single “If You Knew What I Knew” drops on April 10th!

It’s a heart-on-the-sleeve love song. It’s about that realization that someone is your “missing piece.” Sonically, it’s a nod to the great 90s acoustic ballads but with a modern, fresh production.

What was the recording process like?

Very intimate. I recorded the vocals in a way that captures every breath and nuance—this is where the “Vocal Kinship” comes in. I wanted the listener to feel like I’m standing right there in the room with them.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

Just a reminder to trust your own ears. In a world full of algorithms, don’t be afraid to love the music that actually moves your heart, regardless of what’s “in.”
