RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW LA ARTIST ABIGAIL FIERCE

Hiya Abigail thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.

Introduce yourself to us:

Hi! I’m Abigail Fierce – I’m an indie pop-rock singer-songwriter and actress living in Los Angeles. I’ve been on Hulu’s “Love, Victor”, NBC’s “This Is Us”, Netflix’s “American Vandal” and the new Paramount+ movie “Fantasy Football”, starring Kelly Rowland (from Destiny’s Child). My music currently has over 4 million streams on Spotify and my songs have placed in several of the top songwriting competitions. I love playing guitar and writing songs at 2 am. I also love dogs.

What is your musical history? What made you decide that music is a thing for you?
My family is not musical at all. Music wasn’t a thing in our house growing up, except for what I brought in.

What are your 3 favorite albums?

Live Through This by Hole, Red by Taylor Swift & Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette.

What was the first song you heard that steered you into a music path?

If I’m being honest, it’s probably when I was 4 years old. I was in bed with the flu when the series premiere of “Hannah Montana” with Miley Cyrus aired on the Disney channel. In between fits of being violently ill, I was like “Hey, that chick’s cool.”

The music industry is the hardest industry in the world to progress in. How do you feel you are doing?
I went into the entertainment business (for acting) when I was 13, so I feel like I was already prepared for it to be tough. I had no glamorous expectations of what it would be like. Like any business, it is a job, and it happens to be very hard, time-consuming work. But, hey, I hate being bored.

I’m seeing a lot of debate about women not feeling safe at music gigs, any thoughts on what we need to do to help?

Well. You know. Not “feeling safe” probably isn’t the problem. Others making them not safe is the problem. 🙂

Tell us Two truths and a lie about you.

  1. I’ve never seen an episode of the Bachelor or the Bachelorette.
  2. I love roller coasters & always have.
  3. I can make bird calls with my hands.

Do you sign up for any conspiracy theories?

I honestly don’t have time.

Tell us something about you that you think people would be surprised to find out.
Hmmm. That I love stuffed animals. That I taught myself how to play guitar. That I’m a natural blonde. I’ve been playing at coffee shops for tips and saving the money up on my night stand so I can buy a bull terrier.

What makes you stand out as a band/artist?

I think the fact that I write all of my songs, usually alone, and play all of the instruments on my tracks (except drums). I always strive to have thoughtful lyrics and be a good role model.

I hear you have a new song coming out, what can you tell us about it?

I think that because of its keen mix of sharp lyrical metaphors, dreamy storytelling and fun, loud guitars, this song is sure to be the charming love song that LGBTQ+ women and girls have been looking for their whole life.

Talk me through the thought process of the new tune.

So every Tuesday when I would go to my local coffee shop, there was this cute barista with cat-eye eyeliner and a black beanie. She never wore a name tag, so I nicknamed her Daphne. The song tells the story of Daphne and me in love but on the bridge it is revealed that I’m just dreaming of my local barista, whose real name I don’t even know. :/

What was the recording process like?

I’m extremely hands on in the studio – I’m a perfectionist. I pay a lot of attention to detail, and I spend a lot of time tweaking and adding each layer until I’m happy with the track. I love messing with all of the gritty guitar

tones and trying to bring my love of 90’s alt. rock and grunge into a modern pop space.

What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tune?

Writing this song was the easiest part. I was in bed one night trying to sleep and the opening line “she makes sense like snow in the desert, a stolen kiss – I’ll never understand her” just popped in my head and I got out of bed to write it down and the rest just kind of came pouring out. I wrote it in like 30 minutes.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

I just booked some exciting roles in 2 new movies. Be on the lookout for updates on my social media! Also, the “2 truths and a lie” – the lie is that I love roller coasters. I’m scared to death of them. I don’t think I’ve ever even been on one.
