RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW LEAZES

Hiya Joe / Leazes ,thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.

What was life like for you before you got into music?

I guess our lives have always had a musical element to them, growing up in bands, meeting in college on music courses, a couple of the lads meeting at gigs before getting together. Joe (Singer) said the only thing that would get him to sleep when he was little was Santana blasting through his Grandads house

What’s the live music scene like in Newcastle right now? Anyone we should be looking out for (bar you, of course)?

The areas popping right now, it really seems like Newcastle has came to life over the last few months, there’s been a good little re-ignite in the Toon. A couple of bands to keep an eye on would be Idle Hands, Park View and Criminal Holiday, all very different bands, but smashing it in their own right!

It seems like being a social media curator has become added to the many jobs of a musician, how do you feel about this?

I guess it just comes with the territory if im honest! Its not something I ever envisioned us doing, bearing in mind a couple of us don’t even have our own social media accounts. But it has massively opened up a world of new connections, whether it be new listeners, existing fans, or just any fella having a scroll. So for that were still grateful for it in a way!

How do you manage engagement on your socials?

I think we just take the approach of the more the better; we try our best to respond to each and every comment, meet up with people who support us, its our tiny way of showing that we’re grateful.

What’s your view on the Music industry today?

I think the music industry is a big ever changing beast, we’re very early in our journey so we cant say too much, however, its just about putting your best foot forward, without reservation we’ve found that seems to work for us.

Whats the biggest thing you have learned recently as you progress with your music?

I think the biggest thing that we’ve learned recently, would be that its all about patience, for all weve had nano-virality overnight on social media, its just a small drop in the ocean when it comes to the bigger picture, if you plug away with dedication and purpose, it’ll come.

What was your best experience on stage?

I think we would all have to say selling our most recent gig at The Grove. Coming onto stage to 350+ people chanting the bands name is just phenomenal. There were people on shoulders, limbs about, inflatables everywhere, and an absolute tonne of smiles, which is the most important thing for us.

I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?

Yeh! So weve just released our latest tune suns out! Its going down an absolute storm to be fair! Its the first release we have had thats hit 10K in a week, while its a small feat for some, its the first that were ticking off! Sun’s Out’ could quickly become your favourite new anthem for this summer. With its rich and driven hooks, soaring atmosphere, and killer riffs layered throughout,we are certainly looking to get you up and out of our seats with this one.

What was the recording process like?

Recording was alot of fun! We travelled down to Liverpoool for a few days to lay the latest track and another that will be ready to go soon. It was our first time working with some high level engineers at SugarHouse which taught us alot in terms of how to break down our own sound, and rebuild it into the statue that it should be. But its always a good laugh in the studio, apart from the heads in the morning…

What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?

I would say the biggest learning curve has just been about learning to let the song breath sometimes, you cant force magic, it has to be crafted organically.

Would you change anything now it’s finished?

Not a thing.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

Keep an eye on all of our social media! We have a whole host of Gigs, Festivals, Upcoming releases and plenty bits behind the scenes to keep your appetite wet!
