RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW LIVERPOOL HIP HOP ARTIST CJAY

Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.

What made you decide to that music is a thing for you?

When everyone gave me good feedback after hiding my music from everyone for ages I finally decided to show people. Plus I can always write songs within a few hours just comes easy to me.

Introduce to us you and your musical history?

Im cjay im 22 from liverpool I have just had a child names him after me Charlie haha I have been writing music since age 13 but not recorded anything till age 20 I made a single called first chance that got good reviews so I made another 2 singles at the end of 2021 and they also got amazing reviews so I made a ep in 2022 recently and made all my music videos to my release what has led me to record one at anfield stadium where my favourite football team plays and the city where I live.

What’s one question you’re sick of being asked when interviewed?

What got me into music? Everyone loves music just depends if you can write it

We set up RGM USA and many other countries in the world to share music with America and the UK, good idea?

Yes

Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories?

no I find the strange

Did you buy anything you don’t need in the pandemic?

No stuck to my music

What useless party trick do you have?

Can beatbox

What was the most fun you have had on stage?

My debut performance when I rapped I remember my single about my life being bullied and confronting it

What was the worst experience on stage?

My first performance while waiting for the mic to work I was just stood there nervous while technical people tryna fix the mic and speaker was just awkward

Tell us something about you that you think people would be surprised about?

I don’t just rap ive actually got a good singing voice

If you had to describe your music to an alien how would you describe it?

Im the only person who sounds like me ive got my own flows and the topics are deep they will really make you think about life but also the beats make you want to dance.

What makes you stand out as an artist?

Im a ginger scouser who always creates new tracks and videos im more consistent than any other underground rapper I know even more than some professional artists in the charts. I speak about my life and feelings but also give advice in my music to the younger generation.

I want to inspire people.

Right now, what’s pissing you off the most?

That ive not been recognised yet for my work and work rate

What’s your favourite song to perform and why?

I remember its about my life and gets people emotional

I hear you have a new music, what can you tell us about it?

Its my debut ep called mind over matter and the video I have recently made is for a song called chase all my dreams from the ep. Its about chasing my dreams and facing fears etc even though people can try bring you down and the street life isn’t the only option the youth have got if they really chase their dreams they can be whatever they want to be in life.

Talk me through the thought process of the music video and the ep?

I went to anfield the place I always dreamed of playing football to record this video with my girlfriend and my dad we all got shots around the ground inside it and outside to show of my home town football team stadium. The ep was all wrote in one depressed night when I had abit of a bad all nightery so I just decided to write my feelings and anger etc to beats and in the end I seen I made 4 songs from it I went studio recorded it just to see what it sounds like had no intentions to release it yet but y family and friends went crazy for it and told me to release it once I did for me it boomed I got so much attention on my Instagram and spotify and apple music with over 500 playlist placements and 30k streams just on spotify so I made it my next goal to record music videos for my ep and that’s what im doing this is the 3rd video out of the 4th and now im just trying to promote it as much as I can.

What was the recording/filming process like?

It was easy its just fun for me so I don’t see it as work ide do it all day if I could everyday

What was the biggest learning curve in writing the ep?

Sounds abit sad but when writing this ep I learnt a lot about who I am and how I feel inside but how much I actually want to help people.

Would you change anything now its finished?

Nothing at all

What are your plans for the year ahead?

I have one more video to record then I want to make it a goal to get 3 more singles recorded and released by the end of the year

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

I just wanna thank everyone whos streamed and gave me support so far without it I really wouldn’t be to release my work it started as a outlet for my mental health but the support of everyone is amazing so if I ever did make it ide love to give back in any way.
