RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW MANCHESTER BAND PROSE
Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.
What made you decide to start the band?
We heard that boys in bands get all the women and at that point, we were extremely virgin… and at this point too. we were lied to.
Introduce us to you and your musical history?
Me and lee actually met through my cousin Dave, he was producing some music for me at the time and I told him I wanted to do some stuff with live guitars, Lee grew up a few doors down from Dave and was his sister’s ex.. should have been awkward I know but I didn’t ask questions. Anyway, Dave introduced me and lee we made one bad song and then I couldn’t get rid of him.
What’s one question you’re sick of being asked when interviewed?
We get asked if we’re brothers quite a lot which is worrying as I feel like one of us is much better looking than the other.. il let the readers decide. *Cough* It’s Mike. (Can you tell lee wasn’t present for the interview?)
Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories?
Don’t get Lee started. He went through I really bad phase once. foil hats, flat earth, all that nonsense – sort of joking, sort of not!
Although I do thoroughly believe that the elites are killing the young and drinking their blood to remain young. (Feel free to edit that out – just kidding HM)
Did you buy anything you don’t need in the pandemic?
I bought everything I didn’t need in the pandemic. I have a really expensive camera now that has just been collecting dust since I got it. I did get a little home studio set up as well though which has been pretty useful.
What useless party trick do you have?
The only thing off the top of my head I can think of is I can drink a bottle of beer in a few seconds by doing this tornado thing I seen once. I can also wobble my eyes really fast.
What was the most fun you have had on stage?
I would say something that stands out for us is Reading and Leeds festival, we played the festival republic stage and the tent was rammed, I had brought a few of my friends and my brother along and they were at the side of the stage and it was just an all-round great vibe and great weekend!
What was the worst experience on stage?
This is a tough one we’ve had some bad ones, once at the start of our journey we played in a college canteen (none of our colleges) with loads of unsuspecting college students, and that was a very awkward one just off the top of my head.
Tell us something about each member that you think people would be surprised about?
People will be surprised to know we can’t actually stand each other. We’re just in it for the money at this point and so far there isn’t much so it’s pretty ridiculous.
If you had to describe your band/music to an alien how would you describe it?
We say words that rhyme sometimes fast and sometimes slow and dragged out over a weird wooden box with metal strings that make noise when you hit them.
What makes you stand out as a band?
I think although what we do isn’t completely unheard of we do have A particular sound whether that be Lees riffs or Mike’s voice so we think people could recognise a Prose song if they heard one.
Right now, what’s pissing you off the most?
Right now I would say not being able to take a plane anywhere we want without thinking about COVID tests and PCRs and Vaccines.
What’s your favourite song to play live and why?
One of our favourite songs to play is probably Highs and Lows. We save this till the end usually as its about getting drunk and its a really good vibe the crowd all sings the words and we love it.
I hear you have a new single, what can you tell us about it?
Yes!! We have a new upcoming single called “9 Million Volts” and it’s out on the 26th of May. The songs are all about finding the one after a series of “not the ones” if that makes sense!
Talk me through the thought process of the single?
This will be the first song we’ve released where Mike actually wrote the chords as well. I come to Lee with a scatty idea on the guitar with some lyrics and he made it into a banger.
What was the recording process like?
We enjoyed the recording process for this song a lot. We first recorded it in Oscillate studios which is a great studio but then ended up actually re-recording the whole song because we realised it was probably a little bit too slow. So went back to the drawing board!
What was the biggest learning curve in writing the single?
I think that whatever speed we think a song should be. A little bit faster than that is probably right.
Would you change anything now it’s finished?
I don’t actually think we would, we put a lot of work into it and we think it’s a banger!
What are your plans for the year ahead?
This year we have some more singles coming out, some big festivals and some big headline shows! So we can’t wait.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
Did you know that a Michelin star in a restaurant is actually given to them by the tyre company Michelin? I just found this out recently and it blew my mind. Google it.
