Hiya, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.
What made you decide that music is a thing for you?
I think music is not something that you wake up in the morning and decide to be a musician. It is a vocation. The person should feel like his/her purpose in this world is to be a musician, if he/she/they don’t feel that, then music ain’t for them. I always knew I was a musician, an artist. Just that I was always scared to show it up.
Introduce us to you and your musical history.
Hello,
I am Betta Salvan. A new singer in Manchester that so far released three singles and one EP in less than a year. I am a mother and he is my motivation in everything I do.
What was the first song you heard that steered you into a music path?
No song made me want to be a musician. but there are few songs I heard in the last few months that made me feel like I’m not alone in this music journey, that we all want to get somewhere in music but it is extremely hard because nowadays everyone is a musician.
The music industry is the hardest industry in the world to progress in. How do you feel you are doing?
I think nowadays like in everything it is not about talent (only) but also popularity and knowing the right people. Ok, I have been told that I can sing. So, I guess I’m talented, but I am not popular at all. I barely know my family members lol I consider them one of the least popular people I know, also I don’t know the right people to make it. So considering these aspect I think is extremely hard to get to the level I want to be especially since I am also a mother so I need to combine motherhood, working and be a musician all at the same time. It’s hard, but every day I am a step closer to where I want to be. Improving every day.
I’m seeing a lot of debate about women not feeling safe at music gigs, any thoughts on what we need to do to help?
I went to a few gigs and I feel like nothing wrong happened to me or anybody around me. I feel like women are not safe anywhere. We just need to be cautious of what we are doing.
As you develop as an artist and develop using socials, in what ways do you get new ears on your music? Any tips?
I get to new ears, not with social media only, but by always seeking new opportunities. I wanted my song on the radio. I didnt just tweet “hey I have a song” I looked up for any radio station and I got picked by Tameside radio on May 1st and last summer my song “Stalker” got played on the radio a few times. Was it because I shared it on social media? no was because I was looking for this opportunity. Sharing on social media is important but not as much as doing your own research, or looking for new audiences yourself.
Tell us Two truths and a lie about you.
I am not a good liar
I am into zodiac signs
I love insects and animals walking close to me
Which one is the lie? Is too easy to find out
Did you buy anything you don’t need during the pandemic?
Who did not? We were all bored. I bought clothes that were too small, some toilet brushes and other stuff that I don’t even remember. BUT I BOUGHT A LOT OF FOOD THAT I REALLY DIDN’T NEED TO BUY. No wonder I gained some weight.
What was the worst experience on stage?
The worst that can happen on stage is when I’m performing and some people in the audience are really loud. I understand that they want to speak with their mates, but I think they should respect the artist as well and perhaps speak lower or whisper between the ears not screaming.
Tell us something about you that you think people would be surprised about.
I speak four languages. Not a big deal. But I am thinking of implementing some of them in my music.
What makes you stand out as a band/artist?
That I sing about anything. I can sing about bulls**t love pasta and tiramisu, and I can sing about feelings as well. I don’t think this makes me stand out, but I really do not see anything that stands out in me lol
I hear you have new music, what can you tell us about it.
Is an EP about zodiac signs. Aries to Virgo. Six different personalities. I tried to sing every song by using my personal experience with these signs. Are mostly female oriented. (I don’t imagine a man saying they are killer Barbies for example, but never can say)
What was the recording process like?
CRAZY. I have some kinda music studio at home and I work from home. So on my break I take my laptop (my partners) and use my partner’s stuff (mic etc) to record my songs. sometimes they sound awful, sometimes good but I’m always rushing, because that’s the only time available that I have to record.
What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?
The less you like that zodiac sign the harder it is to write a song about them. I’m not going to mention which ones I struggled with the most.
Would you change anything now that it’s finished?
The way I recorded it. I should have taken my time. But who has time these days lol
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
I am a scriptwriter. I write scripts. I had one last year on filmfreeway and it was well appreciated. I think I should do more of that
