Hiya , Michellar, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.
What’s the live music scene like in San Francisco right now? Anyone we should be looking out for ?
Honestly, I am not familiar with a lot of the well known musicians in San Francisco. Except I often come across so many talented songwriters and musicians during my open mic performances. To name a few… Elise who lives in Oakland writes like Joni Mitchell and performs with a grit and emotion that is captivating. Then there is Erik, who I met and plays his guitars and cover songs with so much passion, it’s hard not to miss his vibes. Then there is Alex… who plays and writes like Dan Fogelberg that I cant keep my ears away when he gets on the stage. We have a very vibrant , eclectic and nostalgic group of artists that show up to render there songs into the SF Music scene and its a shame that none of us are known…. but we are happy to play to an audience …. All the same.
Do you think its easy to become a victim of of our surrounds sometimes? Yes… its very easy to become a victim … especially when
One is not grounded in strong roots of identity .
Whats your favourite social media platform to use and why?
Instagram is my favorite social media media platform. I like it because its easy to use and the engagement is real.
We believe its essential to have a presence on Facebook, Instagram and X to introduce yourself to all the different types of audiences out there, what’s your thoughts on that?
I agree that one has to have a social media presence as much as possible. The platforms delivers a wide array of exposure globally which was not even possible back in the days unless you got into the radio.
What’s your view on the Music industry today?
The Music Industry is tough to get into and survive on. It is expensive, manipulative and exhausting. One has to have temperance and fortitude to keep going .
With so many songs being released everyday… it is very difficult to stand above the noise. It takes guts, money , perseverance, good strategy and support to make it .
Whats the biggest thing you have learned recently as you progress with your music?
The biggest thing I have learned is to have a strategic plan to make it in this industry. Its not just about the talent or skill or luck.
What’s currently in your ears and on rotation at the moment?
Currently my ears are onto to Country Gospel , Pop jazz and Psychedelia. Its sounds like I’m all over the place…. But as an artist… I’ve been always curios to experiment in all the spectrums of the media. It keeps me from getting bored . It keeps my interests going.
What was your worst experience on stage? Any funny stories to share?
The worst experience on stage is forgetting my melody or lyrics when I play new songs. But then I realize … no one else knows the tune but me so its all okay.
Got any fun, funny stories from life on the road?
I took a new song to a focus group to see if I get any feedback from the vibes , melody and lyrics that it conveys to an audience. The audience ’s first question was after hearing it for the first time “Was the song about Penis? The song title is Venus. It just made me laugh so hard … I couldn’t help myself to say… I can make that work…just need to write some new lyrics.
I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?
Yes I have recently released a new Album “ Reverie… from then till now”.The songs in this album are my quiet reflections on life. The moments that have made me think about what I’ve gone through. The clarity that I actually had to write them seems like a miracle to me. Because for 40 years , songwriting had disappeared from my life and to have experienced that disappearance… that void …. left me in pain that for so long. When I found it back … I couldn’t imagine my life without it.
I also have written some new songs on Religion and Faith, and Girlie stuff… like infatuation, shopping, and experimenting . They willl be released in Ep’s sometime this year.
What was the recording process like?
Recording is more work than I thought it would be. Catching that perfect audio to mix is a balancing act that takes practice, patience, good ears and a good sense of artistic integrity.
Would you change anything now it’s finished?
Im going to let this album breathe ….now that it’s finished. I wouldn’t change anything because I love the way it turned out and I have my producer Tobias Wilson to thank for that.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
