MICHELLAR

RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW MICHELLAR

Hiya MIchellar , thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.

What was life like for you before you got into music?

Life before I got into music was mundane. Each day went onto the next without any kind of feeling of excitement and joy.

What’s the live music scene like in San Francisco right now? Anyone we should be looking out for at the Riptide , of course)?

The music is pretty vibrant … lots of new music and musicians performing their craft and it is such a big community to be part of.

It seems like being a social media curator has become added to the many jobs of a musician, how do you feel about this?

Being a social media curator , has given musicians a whole new dimension to get into. The opportunities are there to become well known in such a small period of time if one has time to spend on creating and curating reels and contents that the public can enjoy. I personally have not has the luxury of having a large social media presence but that doesn’t mean I don’t work on my music . I actually work on my music all the time… whenever and wherever I can. Recording these sessions just take a little bit more time to post on social media.

How do you manage engagement on your socials?

I try and keep up with the trends  in music  by listening and watching posts related to my interests. Engaging with music blogs and such together with new artists and music … is something I am just getting used to. I am a new artist who have just been in the scene since 2024 so I am trying to catch up with all of the news and developments.

What’s your view on the Music industry today?

I feel that the Music industry is so saturated that it is very difficult for an indie artist to become noticed. The investments that indie artist puts into their artistry surpasses the non-rewards that all  their efforts can gain.

But if one knows how to work the algorithms … then there could be promise of success. It also seems that a lot of technology , Ai, and robots play big role in artists survival. Artists need them but they also don’t want to be replaced by them.

Where do you feel you currently sit within the music industry?

I am still a new artist and have a long away to go to get recognition. I feel my songs are good and I am very proud of them. But to be in the mainstream of commercial music industry is still far away for me to catch and be on.

Whats the biggest thing you have learned recently as you progress with your music?

I have learned that one has to be well funded to move forward in their musical careers. Another is that the right connections … can make a difference in the music industry.

What was your best experience on stage?

My best experience is when people would play and sign along with me as I perform my songs on stage.

What was your worst experience on stage?

My worst experience is when I forget how to play my music when my nerves come in.

Tell us something about you that you think people would be surprised about.

I did not study music. I don’t site  read notes or know all of the guitar chords. But I do all my songwriting from the heart and the playing from when I was 9 when I started.I am constantly learning as I go along.

I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?

I have new EP  music with a latin flair coming out. Because I am part Spanish , with great grandparents from Catalan Spain… I feel that I need to express that latin influence in my songs… to honor my heritage even if it’s just a few songs.

What was the recording process like?

I have a home studio when I record my demos and vocals. Having this studio helps me create the sounds I like .

What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?

The biggest learning curve is coming up with chord progressions that satisfy my craving for that latin sound.

Would you change anything now it’s finished?

No… I am proud of them and I cant wait to share them.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

I am following my dreams with Music… and I’d like to share that it’s never too late to do that . It took me 45 years to write music again and I am so glad that it came back.
