MILLY THIMARAS

RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW MILLY THIMARAS

Hi Milly, thanks for joining us today. Tell us something about you that you think people would be surprised about.

I was homeless around 6 months after the covid restrictions were lifted. That’s a whole other story!

What are the next steps you plan to take as a band to reach the next level?

Well my big show at Papillon, Southampton will be my debut Album Launch! I will be playing all but one of the new songs from the album with a few tips of the hat to my heroes and some of my early releases too! Like I said earlier everything is pointing towards getting the album heard by as many people as possible. So thats what I’m focusing on!

I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?

I have! Bullets was released a few weeks ago. I wrote it about carrying past troubles with you as wounds that have healed, but you learn from them and become stronger for them, no matter how much they might hurt.

What was the recording process like?

We’ve figured out a process over time that we’re really happy with. I record everything with Luke Rigden as he just adds a magic I’ve never found when working with other mixing engineers in the past. Laurence does a lot of the arrangement, guide tracks and obviously guitar. We’ll usually start with Sam (drums) playing to the guide track and then build the track from there.

Michael Hartley completes the ‘core band’ line-up by laying down some buttery biscuit bass. Outside of my ‘musical family’ that I share with those guys, I’m lucky enough to be able to call on some talented friends – on this track Mike Spradberry was on keys, and Charley Stride (who has done backing vocals for Sam Ryder and worked as a vocalist for the Eurovision Song Contest). I feel very lucky to have been able to use each and every person on my songs!

What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?

Sleep on it. If you still love it the next day, it is probably a keeper!

Would you change anything now it’s finished?

Nope! Every part of this is a journey. The songs will all evolve on stage and so they should! I don’t want to be playing the ‘record’ version when I’m 70!

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

Someone told me once that my music represents turning pain into power. Life can be so challenging sometimes, and I think if you can turn your pain into anything better then you should just go for it!
