THE NEARLY SKULLS

RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW NEARLY SKULLS

Hiya Nearly Skulls, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.

What was life like for you before you got into music?

That’s a very, very long time ago – no mobile phones, no email, no social media, no internet. We used to read actual books and drop needles onto spinning vinyl.

What’s the live music scene like in Manchester right now? Anyone we should be

looking out for (bar you, of course)?

There’s always loads of great live music in and around Manchester.

It seems like being a social media curator has become added to the many jobs of a musician, how do you feel about this?

We’ll probably just stick to working on the music for now. If we really have to “flood the zone” at some point we’ll maybe reuse our pics and interviews from the 90s.

How do you manage engagement on your socials?

We’ll let you know once we figure it out.

What’s your view on the Music industry today?

In many ways it’s easier than ever – you can make amazing stuff in a bedroom, and distribute it around the world for virtually nothing. But there’s so much music and other entertainment content being made it’s ridiculously hard to get noticed.

Where do you feel you currently sit within the music industry?

We’re somewhere out at the edge of the solar system, sitting on a fence.

What’s the biggest thing you have learned recently as you progress with your music?

It’s really worth taking the time to build a team of people that like and support the music.

What was your best experience on stage?

Being mobbed by beautiful female fans!

What was your worst experience on stage?

Playing to an empty room is no fun.

Tell us something about you / each member that you think people would be surprised about.

Paul produced the black comedy movie “Shut Up And Shoot Me”. Andy once fell off a roof, and escaped unscathed! He later said “Where I’m from, if we were any harder we’d rust”.

I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?

Well technically Only In America was originally written in 1995. This is a fresh arrangement with new lyrics for the strange times we are in.

What was the recording process like?

We record in our own studio, but recently we’ve brought in extra help for mixing and mastering. That’s made a big difference and we’re really happy with the results.

Would you change anything now it’s finished?

No, but we’d love to do a new version with Bruce Springsteen on vocals!

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

We’d like to see more young artists calling for change, rather than just singing about how much sex they want to have while the oligarchs and tech bros are robbing everybody blind.
