RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW NEW YORK ARTIST EVA WESTPHAL

Introduce us to you and your musical history.

Hey there! I’m Eva Westphal, and I’ve been making music since I was really little. I started playing violin when I was 6 years old and then chose to write songs at around 13. Since then I never really stopped!

Name me your 3 favorite albums.

Evermore by Taylor Swift, By The Way, I Forgive You by Brandi Carlile and Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves.

What was the first song you heard that steered you into a music path?

Landslide by Fleetwood Mac!

As you develop as an artist and develop using socials what ways do you get new ears on your music? Any tips?

I love to use TikTok to reach wider audiences and Instagram to communicate more consistently about my life to my core audience. Social media has been a really useful tool for my progression as an artist. My advice would be to find your voice and spread it consistently – posting a lot is key!

Tell us Two truths and a lie about you.

I have four brothers, I speak four languages, and I play four instruments.

Tell us something about you that you think people would be surprised about.

I’m fully a grandma socially. Like I need to be back home at 11 pm, but then I kinda just doom scroll on my phone until late. But you won’t catch me at a party after 11 pm – Irish exits all the way!

What makes you stand out as a band/artist?

I think my mission, which is to spread self-love!

I hear you have new music, what can you tell us about it.

“Understood” is a song about finally feeling seen and accepted in life as a queer woman. I’m so lucky to work with such an incredible team! My producer KAIYI killed it on this track.

What was the recording process like?

Pretty meditative, honestly. The song’s done, it’s all written, and all you have is you and a mic in a little booth for a couple of hours. You have to really be present.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

I hope other queer people (and others too!) feel heard with this new track, I’m really proud of it.
