RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW NEW YORK ARTIST POPTOKEN

What made you decide that music is a thing for you?

Just one day that emerged inside of me and there was nothing I could do but follow that feeling that was brought to me in this universe of music. It’s what I have in my mind every day when I wake up when I go to bed. It’s what helps me to live through joy and sadness.

We set up RGM USA and many other countries in the world to share music with America and the UK, good idea?

For sure, I like the idea of connecting the countries with each other but at the same time keeping in mind local scenes and people’s preferences.

Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories?

Sometimes I want to but I stop myself from proceeding. I try to stick to solid facts and information:)

Did you buy anything you dont need in the pandemic?

Adjustable dumbbells! Oh, boy! I thought I would be staying at home and keeping myself fit and healthy but that didn’t work out as planned…

What was the most fun you have had on stage?

For now, my experiences were all pretty even and fun. I just really enjoy how the audience responds to me. I see the spark in their eyes. But it’s been a while ago, I need to get back into this.

Tell us something about you that you think people would be surprised about.

That I’ve been to almost 50 counties at my still young age. I feel like it excites people when they find out this information and raises a lot of following-up questions;)

If you had to describe your music to an alien how would you describe it?

I’m just like you, extraterrestrial.

What makes you stand out as an artist?

Everything about poptoken is unique, it’s about reflection on pop culture and creating your own world where you can be yourself and free from the labels. I just want to bring something new and fresh into pop music and I see that people are intrigued by my songs.

Right now, whats pissing you off the most?

I’m really upset that some people in the government in various countries literally threaten progress and our bright future. That can even affect our present. This situation was half of my inspiration for my recent single.

I hear you have new music, what can you tell us about it?

It’s called “Living My Fantasy” and it’s sarcastic, on the extreme, record. It’s about when you try to live your life, build your career, etc and you might not have because someone don’t wanna let you do that or some global process can just change everything in a second. So, maybe you need to be a bit delusional to continue? To live your life – your fantasy.

I hope listeners would appreciate the unique sound of the sound and find relatable aspects because I feel like we’re in the same boat at this point.

What was the recording process like?

It felt like a self-discovery since I used a lot of new techniques that I never used before or thought I could use. Recording this song felt like expanding personal and artistic boundaries. Trying things I thought I couldn’t do before. I wanted to talk about serious problems in a fun way so it feels like you can dance to this song though it can be “dance through tears” for some of us. Thus, I wanted to create a contrast in the vocals and instrumentals.

Would you change anything now it’s finished?

Actually no, I like how everything sounds now and I just can’t for other people to hear it.

What are your plans for the year ahead?

More music for sure, and some other creating projects / my passions to expand the world of poptoken. I can’t wait to share more with the rest of you.
