Hiya Tay Toe! Thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.
What made you decide that music is a thing for you?
It’s the way my brain works. Everything about listening to and creating music appeals to my thought process.
Name your three favorite albums.
The Eminem Show, 2014 Forest Hills Drive, The Devine Feminine
What was the first song you heard that steered you into a music path?
“The Way I Am” by Eminem. I used to listen to him on cassette tape and a tape recorder when I was about 6 years old living in Kansas City.
The music industry is the hardest in the world to progress in. How do you feel you are doing?
I think I’ve made a little bit of noise, but I have a long way to go. I just have to keep doing my part by producing meaningful music. Hopefully, everything else just falls into place.
I’m seeing a lot of debate about women not feeling safe at music gigs. Any thoughts on what we need to do to help?
I think any man that makes women feel unsafe is a wimp. I’ve always stood up for women and it’s gotten me into some bad situations in the past. I say book the artists that make meaningful music.
As you develop as an artist and use social media, how do you get new ears on your music? Any tips?
Having a good marketing plan is everything and I learned so much about music marketing in 2022. I’m excited about some of the marketing plans I have in 2023, you’ll just have to wait and see.
Tell us two truths and a lie about you.
I’m just going, to tell the truth because that’s who I am. I go to church every Sunday. I have a wife, 2 dogs, and a cat. I’m a college graduate.
What are your thoughts on Spotify’s monopoly on the music industry?
I don’t disagree with it, I love Spotify. I’m actually considering investing quite a bit of money in their stock.
Do you subscribe to any conspiracy theories?
No not at all I’m a very realistic person. I do believe in aliens though. There’s no way we’re the only thing that exists in this ever-expanding universe.
Did you buy anything you don’t need during the pandemic?
Of course, I spend a lot of money on things I don’t need. I have a bad habit of wanting the best of everything.
What was your worst experience on stage?
I love performing. I honestly don’t think I’ve had a bad experience on stage. I’m locked in when I perform and people usually enjoy watching me.
Tell us something about you that you think people would be surprised about.
I’m a gifted athlete when it comes to football and wrestling. I also like boxing, but I’ve never competed in that sport.
I like the stock market and I’m handsomely invested.
I’ve had 3 ACL Surgeries
What makes you stand out as a band/artist?
I really care about the content that I’m putting out there. I’ve had my time to grow as an artist because I started making music when I was 15. I’m only going to give you my best.
I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?
My debut album ‘Habits and Setbacks’ was released in December of 2022. I could’ve taken more time to perfect every song on the album, but if you listen to it front to back I guarantee it won’t disappoint. My next album will be flawless though, I promise.
Talk me through the thought process behind the new tunes.
I go through a few different phases when creating music. I go through periods of time where I just love writing. Then I go through periods of time where I record nonstop. Then I try to put it all together to make a masterpiece.
What was the recording process like?
I built a home studio inside of a walk-in closet in my house. It was pretty expensive, but the room is soundproofed like crazy and the acoustic treatment is some of the best stuff you can buy.
What was the biggest challenge in writing the new tunes?
Finding the right instrument is the biggest challenge. I’m super picky about the beat. The beat has to inspire me and the quality has to be professional.
Would you change anything now that it’s finished?
I would’ve perfected every line that I recorded, but this album was just a project, just a warm up to a beautiful music career.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
I love making music and I respect anybody that puts their heart and soul into their music.
