Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.

What made you decide to become a soloist?

Music has always been a passion of mine. I think it is great how you can tell a story through song. That’s what my songs are really, a story or my way of expressing my thoughts and experiences through life.

Introduce us to you and your musical history?

My name is Jessy and I am a Contemporary Christian artist. I am inspired by Sara Bareilles, Adele and Lauren Daigle.

What’s one question you’re sick of being asked when interviewed?

At the minute, what crazy things have you been up to, the past two years have been pretty mundane with lockdown haha.

Did you buy anything you don’t need in the pandemic?

Oh yes! I’m so bad at online shopping. There are many shoes that I probably don’t really need. But a girl can never have too many shoes right!?

What useless party trick do you have?

I wouldn’t say I have any useless party tricks I’m quite good at baking so if you come to my party you’ll be well fed!

What was the most fun you have had on stage?

I’ve just done a performance exam at Uni and I love rocking out with my band. We wore bright neon paint and crazy lipstick, it was great!

What was the worst experience on stage?

I’ve forgotten some words, but who hasn’t right!

Tell us something about you that you think people would be surprised about?

I used to be a Health Care Assistant for St. Giles Hospice. I met some amazing people and I will always remember that experience.

If you had to describe your band/music to an alien how would you describe it?

Inspiring, pop, country fusion.

What makes you stand out as an artist?

I am pretty honest in my lyrics. It’s very personal and heartfelt and I think people connect with that. We all watch the rain fall down the car window and pretend it’s our own sad movie moment haha!

Right now, what’s pissing you off the most?

All that’s going on in the world. It’s making me so sad to watch the news.

What’s your favourite song to play live and why?

I’m loving She Used To Be Mine from Waitress at the moment. Great song.

I hear you have a new single, what can you tell us about it?

Just As You Are is the third single from my album release campaign. This song is super special to me because it uses the phrase I’ve kind of adopted as my slogan/mission statement.

Talk me through the thought process of the single?

This single is a simple song both lyrically and musically. I wanted this song to tell a story of hope for anyone and everyone who listens. I think the thought process today goes something like…”I have to be perfect or earn my place based on my actions.” I want this song to welcome everyone to come..Just As They Are. No expectations. This song has a Christian message of God welcoming everyone no matter who they are. It’s a song about love, and God’s invitation to show His love to everyone.

What was the recording process like?

Oh it’s so much fun! I really love it when I capture a thought, or stirring in my heart within a song! I have a real quiet space in my home studio where I can create freely and it’s truly wonderful. I’m very grateful.

What was the biggest learning curve in writing the single?

Not to worry that my song maybe isn’t commercial or technical, but that’s not the point of this song. It’s supposed to be simple and stripped back, raw and honest.

Would you change anything now it’s finished?

Absolutely nothing.

What are your plans for the year ahead?

I’m just going to keep releasing music. Sharing through song is what I am called to do, so I’m gonna keep doing that!

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

Just my insta, come give me a follow, it will be great to have you join the gang! You can find me @songwriterjessy and remember to come….Just As You Are…
