Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.
What made you decide to start to become a soloist?
I always loved music growing up. I played in many bands and always did solo stuff in my teen years and that progressed to producing. After a break, I rediscovered my love of music in 2020 and it’s not the easiest thing to start a band from scratch so doing the solo thing now. Love it since I can do whatever I feel like at any time.
Introduce us you and your musical history?
I’m Machiee, I’m a songwriter, producer from the Chicago area. I always loved music of all kinds from old to new. I play the guitar, keyboards and sing. I worked with some known artists such as Kiiara(did some early demo productions). I played in some
bands with some moderate success around the Chicago scene. After taking a break from music to focus on school and a career to take care of my family I rediscovered my passion for music in 2020 after the pandemic hit and have been writing and recording feverishly ever since.
What’s one question you’re sick of being asked when interviewed?
Well, I haven’t done many interviews recently so I think no question is stupid when getting to know a new artist.
Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories?
No, not really.
What useless party trick do you have?
I can juggle, impresses some kids but otherwise useless ha
What was the most fun you have had on stage?
When my old band played the metro I’m Chicago which was one of the highlights of my band career
What was the worst experience on stage?
My old band played a private even for a video game company. My voice gave out after a couple of songs and it was horrible from then on ha. There were some minor celebrities as well there and I just felt so embarrassed after the show at how it went. I just wanted to get out of there.
Tell us something about you that you think people would be surprised about?
I was born in Poland
If you had to describe your music to an alien how would you describe it?
It’s as if the Strokes, Weezer, Beatles, Green Day, Sublime , the wombats, and Oliver Tree Did a colab song together haha
What makes you stand out as an artist?
I write in a variety of styles which is original yet with a familiar /not to off the wall sound. I want my sound to be my own yet still be accessible to a wide variety of people. Also, I try to keep things positive for the most part. I don’t sing about drugs, sex with random people, or stuff like that.
Right now, what’s pissing you off the most? (Can’t say the virus )
The fact that TikTok is the place that breaks new music. It is good in one sense because it opens the door for everyone basically but at the same time if you just love to make music you now have to try to make TikToks as well just to try to get noticed and get your song plays.
What’s your favourite song to play live and why?
Well, my songs I haven’t played them live yet so not sure yet.
I hear you have a new single, what can you tell us about it?
Yeah my new single is called “I’ll do it myself”. It’s The first singer of the year. I expect to release more songs this year. It comes out January 21St. What’s the song I wrote about not waiting around for other people I need to get stuff done but just taken and find yourself to do it. People will let you down so don’t expect the world everybody.
Talk me through the thought process of the single?
Well in today’s music environment for an artist that is not well-known I think it’s better to release singles and promote songs one at a time to get people familiar with your style before you release albums. Peoples attention spans are so short these days that it doesn’t make sense to release an album if you are not already well-known. So this next batch of songs is just a collection of songs I’ve been writing lately. They had some as ago as well so it’s really a free form kind of process. Although I may at some point put a collection of the songs together and make it as an album but that is still kind of up in the air.
What was the recording process like?
It’s pretty hectic haha. I do all the recording at my house in my basement studio which I don’t get a lot of time to use so in between work and family stuff I find some time to sneak in here there and record the songs. Otherwise the writing process I just make up songs in acoustic guitar and then do a quick demo usually in the studio and it sounds good then I proceed to actually recording it. But I do all the recording myself and the production and mixing as well.
What was the biggest learning curve in writing the single?
I think mixing, mixing has always been a challenge to me. I’m getting the hang of it and finding my own flow to get the sound right.
Would you change anything now it’s finished?
No I’m pretty happy with the way the song turned out.
What are your plans for the year ahead?
Just cranking out as many songs as possible that I feel are worthy of people to hear. I write a lot of random stuff , some doesn’t make it to the final cut but the ones that I do feel are good I plan to record and release. I have a lot in the pipeline.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
