RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW THE BAND FLEAS

Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.

Introduce us to you and your musical history.

Hello, I’m Pedro and I’m the frontman of Fleas, the other members are Millie on Bass, Ryan on Drums, Sam on Rhythm Guitar, and Jason on Lead Guitar.

We are from a little town in the UK called Bury St Edmunds and we have been a band since late 2018 / early 2019.

Name me your 3 favorite Albums.

That’s a tough one if we are talking of all time but right now I’m gonna say…

  1. Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair by La Dispute
  2. Melodic Blue by Baby Keem
  3. Teenagers in the Village by Glitter Shop (shoutout to the BSE music scene)

The music industry is the hardest industry in the world to progress in, How do you feel you are doing?

I feel like if you want to get into the music industry you have to truly love the craft. In terms of how Fleas is doing, the fanbase might be small in comparison to others but the love is absolutely HUGE.

What’s your thought on Spotify’s monopoly on the music industry?

As a consumer of music, I would probably be lost without Spotify. As an artist… I just wish they paid a little more but it also forces us to find new ways to keep the band financially going.

Do you subscribe to any conspiracy theories?

Absolutely! My favorite is the Hollow Earth Theory. In fact, the first EP kind of thing we did was named in reference to that theory… Check out Agartha lol

What was the worst experience on stage?

One time I had an episode of dissociation for the large majority of a set and went into a sort of auto-pilot mode. When I snapped back to it I was in the middle of the moshpit and didn’t know where I was and I felt terrified. Took a little breather, finished the set, and then went to hide in the green room.

Tell us something about you / each member that you think people would be surprised about.

We actually love each other despite the constant bullying.

What makes you stand out as a band/artist?

Probably our live shows. We give every show 110% regardless if there are 5 people or 500 people in the room. We leave everything on stage.

I hear you have new music, what can you tell us about it?

YES! It is a Reissue of one of our favorites, Nightmare.

We originally dropped it back in 2021 but it was missing the same punch and emotional impact that the track has life, so we did it again and now it sounds like how it was always meant to sound.

Talk me through the thought process of the new tune/s.

So the song is essentially about the side effects of antidepressants. In my experience, I felt less sad and hopeless for sure but I also couldn’t feel happiness and joy and was left in a state of constant numbness.

It’s a tough road to navigate but hey, if medication works for you then that’s fantastic!

What was the recording process like?

We recorded it with a kinda DIY setup at the ADC Theater in Cambridge, it was captured by Jake Bevan and Alex Bevan who we work with whenever we put on our own shows and they were lovely as per usual.

Would you change anything now that it’s finished?

I don’t think so… It’s the truest version of the song, warts and all.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

Love.
