THE RAYMONDS

RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW THE RAYMONDS

Hiya The Raymonds, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.

What’s the live music scene like in Liverpool right now? Anyone we should be looking out for (bar you, of course)?

The scene in Liverpool is rich, lots of new artists and developing talents coming through. However, with Zanzibar’s recent closure, questions must be asked about keeping the grassroots scene funded. The incredible “Cathrine Fornæss” is our top pick, one too keep an eye on for sure.

It seems like being a social media curator has become added to the many jobs of a musician; how do you feel about this?

To become a successful musician today, having great music is the bare minimum. On the one hand it’s great way to help connect to the right audience and generate a following, however short form content has taken centre stage therefore the artist can be less focused on the music.

What’s your view on the Music industry today?

I like how its shifted in favour of independent labels and artists rather than relying so heavily on “the big three.” Despite this if you don’t initially have a strong financial backing (say from family or a label) you’re at a significant disadvantage.

What’s the biggest thing you have learned recently as you progress with your music?

Consistency is key, especially with social media and being able to make music sustainably. Not being consentient doesn’t just affect the numbers but the momentum of the band.

What was your best experience on stage?

Alt escape in Brighton was amazing! Having just recorded two of our new singles in abbey road, we set off to play them live for the first time. The response from the crowd was ecstatic playing those songs in that environment was a great end. Defiantly one we won’t forget.

What was your worst experience on stage?

After arriving to a venue and beginning to set the stage, the house drum kit arrived in a bag for life and was clearly a “my first drumkit” for a child. As the show went on the kit began falling apart and our drummer, Alex, had to hold it together while playing.

THE RAYMONDS

I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?

“Around You I’d Run” is our latest single, taking inspiration from the styles of Prince, Dua Lipa and Jamiroquai. It’s a politicly driven pop song where the deep lyrics contrast the upbeat instrumental. The song has an accompanying music video, filmed with our good friends at Spring Picnic Pictures.

What was the recording process like?

Fun! We travelled down to Fleet to record at Sunshine Corner Studios. Our producer at the time, Smiley, helped to bring the best out of our performances whilst creating a great sounding print to work with. We later had help from our friend in LA, Aaron Edwards, who mixed and mastered the song whilst contributing the final touches to the track.

What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?

You’re not as constrained as you think you are, your free to do something crazy and new. If you never step outside your comfort zone you will never refine your abilities.

Would you change anything now it’s finished?

No, I feel it’s impossible to call a mix “finished” there’s always something you could tweak or change. Were extremely happy with the version that has been released especially having worked with Aaron who really pushed it to that professional sounding level.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

We are excited to say we have 3 more singles to come, two of which were recorded at Abby Road Studios down in London. We had a fantastic time writing and recording these songs in the birthplace of some of the greatest music to exist. We expect to share them with you early 2026.
