TINY BARBARA'S SURF CLUB

RGM INTRODUCING – WE INTERVIEW TINY BARBARA’S SURF CLUB WHAT HAPPENED?

Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.

Good morning Nice to be here

Let’s start with the name, go on, what’s that all about?

It was a suggestion from a friend that we put a twist on. We started out doing covers under the name Big Shaun goes Pop.

So a few of you used to be in the Heavily Pregnant Brothers, talk us through the transition into the new lineup and the reason for spicing it up.

Shaun recently left the Brothers. He felt he had done what he wanted to do and wanted to try new things. Toby was involved in the Brothers in the early days but it was too big a commitment.

What’s great about Sheffield right now?

Kelham Island. It’s buzzing just now and there’s loads going on. There’s lots of development going on there which is great as long as it doesn’t take the soul out of the area.

What’s bad about Sheffield at the min?

We can’t really think of a negative, it seems to be really positive at the moment.

Tell us Two truths and a lie about you all.

Let’s not go there, the band would split if we started telling the truth about each other (laughs)

With Mother’s day coming up what is the best Mother Day present you have ever given?

That has to be our new Track ‘Me Mam’ not just for our mums, its for all the mums out there!

You only get one mum and should cherish her.

Do you ever worry about people taking things the wrong way or cancel culture? Discuss….

We don’t worry about that stuff. Theres something that offends everyone because everyone is different. We are what we are and if you don’t like us that’s fine.

Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories? If not why not?

We always wear tin foil hats, they protect us from conspiracy theories..

What was the worst experience on stage?

Mmm good question. We don’t think there’s ever been one. If even one person is there listening and it makes them happy it’s a win.

Tell us something about each member that you think people would be surprised about.

Toby played a drummer in Phoenix Nights but does not play drums in real life.

Steve is the one who comes up with the tunes and knows what will inspire Shaun to write words.

Drummer Scott once almost lost his arm in an accident and was told he wouldn’t play again. But here he is.

Lead guitarist Tim is an expert in the gas industry but we reckon he’s been in at least 3 Lord of the rings films.

Shaun is also an actor and is about to star in ‘The Boys are Back int’ Tarn’ at the Penistone Paramont in March.

Keyboard player Andy invented the sport of Washing Machine Rodeo and studies dinosaurs.

What’s your thoughts on Elon Musk’s contribution to the world?

The guys certainty driven and succeeded with Space X but surely there’s things he could fix on earth before we start looking elsewhere.

Also he could lend us some money if he’s feeling generous…

I hear you have a new music, what can you tell us about it.

We are constantly writing and trying new stuff.

Our latest offerings include glam rock, country and a bit of reggae. You can’t say we’re not diverse musically!

What was the recording process like?

We get together once a week and try out new ideas. A basic idea will be played and eventually the song forms into something we can record as a fully formed track.

What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?

That has to be adding a middle 8 when Andy says we should.

Would you change anything now it’s finished?

You can always change something. It’s original music and there’s always that time when you listen back and think ‘we could have done this/that’

Knowing when to stop adding/changing things is the hardest part.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

Yes. Our last ep ‘Welcome to the Club’

And our new single ‘Me Mam’

(Laughs)

But seriously, life is hard for a lot of people. So everyone just be good to each other.
