Hiya Zeny, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.
Thank You!
What made you decide that music is a thing for you?
It all began when I used to watch a lot of music videos and stuff on TV when I was a kid. Initially, I wanted to grow up to be a Sky Engineer but I guess as the years go by with age, I listened to too much music, picked up the guitar and started to make history with myself. I’ve always wanted to do music anyways when I was a kid so I chose music as the right outlet for me.
Introduce us to you all and your musical history.
It all started back when I used to watch a lot of music on TV. My dad used to show me a lot of Blues musicians such as B.B King and Barry White. I then started listening to a lot Pop stuff and it made me want to start singing, and so I joined a small school rock band, sang the usuals such as Elvis and Chuck Berry and then I wanted to step up and start picking up the guitar when I was 13. During then, I’ve learnt as much as I could, then got the hang of it when I was 14 and that’s when I started listening to Oasis.
I started going to open mic nights, played some pub gigs and here I am!
What’s the live music scene like in Oldham right now? Anyone we should be looking out for Zeny Bux.
I’d say it’s a bit dead at the minute…there are some good open mic nights about, but I don’t think Oldham has joy for music right now…not when it used to be good back in the days.
I’ve seen a lot of people struggling for support recently online. What’s your view on the industry?
To be honest, I think the music industry is a disgrace right now. It’s all about the money, fame and glory. People want to take control with themselves, but then cause more destruction to the industry by choosing musicians over others. We all have to band together and do it together in the correct way possible by supporting each other…never mind money or fame!
Where do you feel you currently sit within the music industry?
Probably further at the back as I really dislike what I see in today’s day and age…but career-wise, I’m sat on the ‘emerging’ seat waiting for something incredible to happen.
Tell us Two truths and a lie about you.
I use a Nokia N95 as a personal phone, I was live on BB Radio Manchester and I supported Liam Gallagher at Knebworth 2022.
Do you ever worry about people taking things the wrong way or cancel culture? Discuss….
Yes, very much likely..and cancel culture, doesn’t phase me one bit really. It’s a disgusting thing but hey, they can try, but they can always fail. I don’t control it, only god does.
Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories? If not why not?
Sometimes…I don’t really hear nor see much conspiracy stuff. I’d only hear or see it, then forget about it unless if it’s something essential.
What was your best experience on stage?
Seeing and hearing the crowd singing.
What was your worst experience on stage?
So I was playing at this pub in Denton called The Jolly Hatters Inn and it had to be THE worst experience in my life. Everyone was so rude, my guitar string snapped and nobody really enjoyed it. Never playing there again…
Tell us something about you that you think people would be surprised about.
I’m a cartoonist! I did a fan cartoon called ‘This Is Duckburg’, which was a fan series of a Disney show called ‘Ducktales’ and I voiced a character called Squire. Right now, I’m working on a cartoon that’s hopefully due to be out in November called ‘Cat With Curiosity’ and I voice a character called Ash. During then, I got someone called ‘Glenn Wrage’, who’s worked on Cartoon Network and other channels on TV to cameo in the cartoon.
So yeah, I make cartoons and I voice act…I dabble a little bit in Freelancing.
What are the next steps you plan to take as a band to reach the next level?
Well at the minute, I’m gonna release one more single next year and then leave it there. I’m still gonna continue with some solo stuff, but I’ve got something else planned for 2025.
I hear you have a new music, what can you tell us about it.
Yes, it’s called ‘If I Fade’, the song is actually a little darker than the others I’ve written and one of the firsts that’s actually a little longer than ‘Better Dreams’. The song is all about mental health and that there’s a lack of consideration from people nowadays. I’ve put it all in a song and thus, If I Fade was written.
What was the recording process like?
It takes at least 2-3 hours to record but it’s worth it at the same time as you can’t rush art.
What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?
Take influences from others, it doesn’t have to always be Oasis or The Stone Roses, etc. Don’t fail, put as much blood, sweat and tears in it and be careful with what you write.
Would you change anything now it’s finished?
Probably nothing as the past is the past now.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
Yes, don’t let world be placed on your shoulders. Work hard, stay happy and if you’re ever feeling down, play Better Dreams and throw a TV out the window. Sorted
