Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.
Thanks for having us! Love the fish tank, reminds me of home.
What made you decide to start a band ?
I think its something we always wanted to do since meeting each other. It was spoken about a lot during those 4am kitchen chats you have after a night out. We have been mates since leaving music college together about 5 years ago, worked together, lived together and all had our own projects going on but didn’t actually start making music until the end of 2019.
Introduce us all to the members?
Im Jimmy the singer, on your left is Jacky (Bass) and the one in the swivel chair with the loafers on is Harry (drums)
What have you been doing during lock down to progress the band?
As with everyone a lot of what we have been doing virtual. We haven’t actually seen each other in person in nearly a year so its very difficult to make music. However our latest single (sugar) was written entirely in lockdown just by bouncing ideas between laptops and recording at home. Its been hard but its been fun.
How has it effected your mental health?
We try and stay positive and stay busy. Im not saying its been easy but were getting through it. Were very lucky to be in a band, id imagine being a solo act is very lonely at the moment, who do you argue about artwork with?
What advise would you give other artists starting out?
Make sure you are loving what you do! We all choose to be musicals because its fun. If you get paid, great, but even if you don’t make sure your having a good time.
So tell me a little bit about you and what you like doing for fun?
Other than the music? Hard drinking.
What good bands are coming out of Leeds at the minute?
Marsicans are blowing up, if you haven’t come across them yet you should have a look, really feel good.
What’s your favourite song right now from another band?
Love and Hate in a Different Time – Gabriels
What support is out there for new artists in Leeds ?
There is a lot out there for the live circuit. Dead young records put some great nights on. Super Friendz, Scruff of the neck, double denim. Emily Pilbeam at BBC intro is really supporting the scene atm as well.
What useless talent do you have/ party trick?
Jacky can balance pretty much anything on his head, its like its got its own gravitational field. I saw him get two full pint glasses on there once.
What was the most fun you have had on stage?
The first gig we played in Oporto bar in Leeds. We hang out there all the time so being able to play there felt like a real homecoming.
What was the worst experience on stage?
Our first ever gig, hyped it up load, got all our mates down. We were triggering samples off a laptop. It was queuing the drums and all kinda stuff, laptop goes down, 3 times. Twice in one song. Lessons learned that day.
Tell us a funny story from backstage?
Not in-front of the fish. Will tell ya later.
Who would you like to work with on the circuit right now?
What makes you stand out as a band?
I think what makes any band stand out is just allowing your selves to sounds like you. Like everyone else started out doing covers and writing stuff trying to imitate our favourite artist but I think we have grown out of that now. We are making music that is just us. Hopefully some people like it.
Right now, whats pissing you off the most? (Cant say the virus 🙂
Trying to watch Netflix and upload to YouTube at the same time, God damn.
Whats your favourite song to play live and why?
Fresh orange at the moment. I (Jimmmy) can barely play that song, most of the time i’m just throwing hands and the piano. There’s a certain freedom there that you just can’t beat.
I hear you have a new single, what can you tell us about it?
Sugar! Or The choice is yours. We couldn’t decide so we gave it both. It’s just a feel good tune. Blessed by the sunshine of the first lockdown. The bulk of it was made on an MPC in Jimmys back garden and then we finished it off in the socially distant studio the back end of summer.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
The rest of the EP, coming summer 21!
Thanks for doing us today folks, all the best and keep in touch.
