RGM RECOMMENDS – FIVE OF THE BEST NEW SINGLE RELEASES

LEM

S.A.D is the haunting debut track delivered by Birmingham producer and rap artist LEM.

The beautiful structured piano-led backing track paints a bleak landscape for an incredibly honest, emotional delivery. According to Lem, the track was written in a deep state of emotion. He envisaged people relating to this track on a deep level stating it reflects both a struggle through grief, anxiety and depression and the continued pain and struggle of the majority whilst the high life gets flaunted by some. Fuck me, it does that and then some.

The addition of minimal, almost non-existent strings only a few bars from the end emphasises the pain and desperation of this track. Lesser producers would have used the string motif throughout the track but the minimal introduction at the end of the track perfectly frames a stunning piece of work.

Mademaker

Soon-to-be grunge legends Mademaker started the new year off in great form with the four-track EP ‘Whatever Happened At Cinderhill’. The title track clocks in at just over two and a half minutes and is a blistering riff-laden monster.

The Warrington duo capture the finest elements of what exactly grunge should be. Energetic, very heavy, loud, hypnotic whilst always remaining melodic.

All the tracks on the EP are welcome additions to the band’s repertoire but it’s the title track in particular that stands alongside any of the genre’s finest tracks. If you like Nirvana, The Foos, Dinosaur Jnr, Soundgarden et al then you need to give Mademaker a listen, you will be glad you did. Check out their socials to ensure you catch them live in the coming months.

Gabrielle Ornate

Suffolk-based ethereal folk fusion pop rocker, Gabrielle Ornate returns with her latest track ‘Enchantress of Sound’ and just like her previous releases, this is one you just can’t pigeonhole.

Within thirty seconds we’ve been teased by a loop suggesting an old-school Goan trance track, hit with a grinding heavy industrial bass riff on top of a hammering drum loop and then treated to what is, pure and simply a great pop vocal… and this mash-up continues throughout the track.

Gabrielle’s signature, slightly offset layered vocals, whilst ever-present come into their own during the chorus and drive the track home, cutting through the myriad of synths, loops and riffs.

SAHAJi

Self-proclaimed ‘epic Japanese rock’n’roll band’ SAHAJi are here to take on and make a big mark on the British music industry.

After early success both in their homeland and across Asia, the brothers signed to Flip Flip Records in 2022 and following support slots with Andrew Cushin and some recent dates with The 355’s the brothers finally release their debut UK single ‘Future in The Sky’

Produced by Britpop luminary Nick Brine the track pays homage to the brother’s influences… it is VERY Britpop, In fact it is very much like one iconic Britpop band in particular, that said it does stand on its own feet and the boy’s love of a football terrace melody, soaring, anthemic chorus and bridging guitar solo has already found plenty of fans. No doubt plenty more will follow.

Available only as a physical release, the four-track EP is available HERE

SUPER 8

Released on the 19th January, ‘Keep Doing It’ is the latest in a long, a very long list of releases for Edinburgh-based Paul ‘Trip’ Ryan AKA Super 8 and is the first single from forthcoming album ‘SUPER 8 present The Plus 4’

True to form ‘Keep Doing It’ is a wonderfully simple, catchy, three-minute pop song of pure joy. Guitars chime and jangle, vocals and harmonies stretch to the point of ‘just about there’. There’s an obligatory Hammondesque organ in the background and a very retro percussion track, listen hard enough and no doubt you’ll hear a door close… it’s all there in all its glory.

Think Beatles, Byrds, Beach Boys, Teenage Fanclub at their finest… it’s simple and it’s beautiful
