Richard Ashcroft is back with his first release since 2018 with an epic cover of John Lennon’s ‘Bring On The Lucie (Freda Peeple)’.
Recorded at the iconic Abbey Road and Redtone studios in California, Ashcroft takes on one of Lennon’s many iconic protest songs, released on his 1973 album Mind Games.
Musically, the track stays faithful to the original, recreating the feel-good instrumentals but delivered with Ashcroft’s musical charm, particularly with his delivery of Lennon’s ever relevant lyrics calling for peace. He also released an accompanying video for the track, filmed at Abbey Road.
Last year, the former Verve frontman has revealed he is recording a stripped-back album of his greatest hits, telling Radio X: “Yeah, at the moment I’m set to start on an acoustic set of some of the best tunes […] and stripping them back and laying them bare basically, so that will be my next thing. I’m excited about that.”
Ashcroft has enjoyed a long and successful career with multiple top five solo albums as well as winning two Ivor Novello awards.
He is set to play sold out shows at the London Palladium in May this year.
