May has been the best month for music this year and Sarah Johnstone’s debut just confirms this matter even further. When the world suddenly paused for millions due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Sarah found herself, like many other musicians, turn to music as a form of escapism. Turning to songwriting in a time of need, ‘Tonight‘ was born. A heartfelt indie number that yearns for connection, this track has the power to connect completely opposite people together.
Based around a soft acoustic arrangement, the delicate number states that simplicity is key in this instance. Reminiscing old 60s songwriting with its folk like storytelling, its Sarah’s refreshing vocals that makes this track perfect to today’s society. Produced, mixed and mastered by Rob Irish, Sarah’s dreamy vocals glide through with reassurance that even on the darkest days, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.
A reflective single that brings you back to the present moment, even if you’re not in a romantic relationship, you can interpret this with platonic relationships too. Missing your friends? Your family? Your pet?
This track feels like a comforting shoulder to cry on to get through the last few hurdles of the UK lockdown restrictions. As for the tracks instrumentation, the guitar leads the way with its pulsating rhythm but it’s Sarah’s inspiring vocals that take centre stage, and rightly so.
