Hiya SPURV, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.
Thanks for joining us today… Tell us bit about where you are from and how you got into music?
I’m from Denmark and music has been part of me since childhood. I have performed with my parents and siblings from a very young age and as a teenager I discovered rock/grunge music, fell in love with writing my own music and…well..that love affair just never stopped.
What’s the live music scene like in Denmark right now?
Alive, especially for established artists. But as it’s a quite small country, it’s important for upcoming artists to also be visible outside Denmark.
Anyone we should be looking out for (bar you, of course)?
If you are up to listening to music in Danish, then NorRaun, Igen Igen or Nana Jacobi. Otherwise Eivør, A Mess and HunBjørn are really cool
Do you think its easy to become a victim of of our surrounds sometimes?
Yes, well maybe not a victim as such. But my whole album is basically about how to navigate in a world that seems to have predefined who you should be.
What are your ambitions for the band?
I really feel I have something to share so mainly I want to get out there and be heard – and live performances are a blast so sharing good vibes is also important.
Whats your favourite social media platform to use and why?
I prefer Instagram, I feel it gets to the point quicker than some other platforms
We believe its essential to have a presence on Facebook, Instagram and X to introduce yourself to all the different types of audiences out there, what’s your thoughts on that?
Agree, but at the same time handling and ensuring presence on a lot of different types of social media platforms, was not the reason I started playing and writing music 😉
What’s your view on the Music industry today?
It feels more chaotic because recording and releasing is easier to do yourself than it used to be, so it seems there are many more artists putting their art online and fighting for attention. The good thing is that more artists are able to share their music 🙂
Whats your thoughts on AI generated music?
AI is probably here to stay, so we need to learn to live with it. When that is said, AI should not be the driving creative force in art. I suddenly realize that I actually really appreciate that there is an actual human being behind a song with a story to tell. Didn’t think about this pre-AI
Whats the biggest thing you have learned recently as you progress with your music?
That I have many stories to tell – and that although SPURV primarily is a DIY project, I do need help for some things once in a while
What’s currently in your ears and on rotation at the moment?
I actually enjoy many different artists new and old in many different genres. To name a few: YONAKA, Meg Myers, Skunk Anansie, Robyn, Live……
What was your worst experience on stage? Any funny stories to share?
Once we played at a festival where the sound was great, the lighting was great, the weather was great, the stage was pretty cool – but everybody was sitting out in their tents getting drunk – so we were playing for an audience of about 10 people. Still gave it our all of course
Got any fun, funny stories from life on the road?
There is always something new happening on the road – be it someone with a fun story or a venue with super cool vibes or an interesting history. I really enjoy meeting people, once you get talking most have an interesting or inspiring story to share
I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?
My debut album ‘The Invisible Body’ is all about confronting the invisible rules that shape our lives – how we’re expected to look, behave, fit in. But it’s also about celebrating the freedom to live your life on your own terms.
What was the recording process like?
All songs were recorded and produced in me and my partner’s home studio. Early in the process I had ‘The Invisible Body’ as a working title for the album and some very rough sketches for songs. We then recorded a ‘first demo’ version of all the songs and picked favorites for the final production.
Would you change anything now it’s finished?
No, but if I recorded it again, I’m quite sure it would be slightly different.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
Fun fact about the percussion parts on the album is that we have sampled boot stomps, pot lids, roasting pans, wooden spoons, small tins and boxes. And played around using guitars for some bass parts. It’s important to have fun!
