Stefanie Michaela Interview – RGM Introducing

Hiya Stefanie, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.

Thanks so much for having me! I’m excited to be here.

Thanks for joining us today. Tell us a bit about where you are from and how you got into music.

I’m Stefanie Michaela from Southern California. I’ve loved singing for as long as I can remember, and after spending years focused on raising my family, I decided it was time to pursue the dream that had always been on my heart. Returning to music has been an incredible journey, and now I’m writing and releasing songs that I hope encourage and inspire others.

What’s the live music scene like in your area right now?

Southern California has an incredible music scene with amazing venues, talented artists, and endless opportunities to be inspired.

Anyone we should be looking out for (bar you, of course)?

There are so many talented independent artists right now. I love discovering new music and supporting fellow musicians.

Do you think it’s easy to become a victim of your surroundings sometimes?

Definitely. It’s easy to compare yourself or get caught up in what everyone else is doing. I’ve learned the importance of staying true to who you are.

What are your ambitions?

To continue releasing music that inspires people, reach more listeners around the world, perform more live, and keep growing as an artist.

What’s your favourite social media platform to use and why?

Instagram. I love sharing behind-the-scenes moments and connecting with people on a more personal level.

We believe it’s essential to have a presence on Facebook, Instagram and X to introduce yourself to all the different types of audiences out there. What’s your thoughts on that?

I agree. Every platform reaches different audiences, so it’s important to meet listeners where they are while staying authentic.

What’s your view on the music industry today?

There are more opportunities than ever for independent artists. It takes hard work and patience, but artists have more control over their careers than ever before.

What’s your thoughts on AI generated music?

I think AI can be a helpful creative tool, but it will never replace genuine human emotion and real-life experiences. That’s what truly connects people to music.

What’s the biggest thing you have learned recently as you progress with your music?

I’ve learned to focus less on numbers and more on building genuine connections with listeners. Authenticity always lasts.

What’s currently in your ears and on rotation at the moment?

Lately I’ve been listening to Tori Kelly, Muni Long, and Lionel Richie. I love artists with incredible vocals, timeless songs, and music that feels genuine.

What was your worst experience on stage? Any funny stories to share?

My in-ear monitor stopped working during a performance, so I couldn’t hear myself at all. I just kept smiling, trusted my instincts, and acted like everything was perfectly fine. Thankfully, the audience never knew!

Got any fun, funny stories from life on the road?

Not yet! At this stage of my career, I’m a stay-at-home mom of five, so my ‘tour life’ looks a little different. Between the beautiful chaos of family life, I’m writing, recording, and performing whenever I can. Right now, my priority is being present for my kids while creating music that I hope inspires others.

I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?

My latest single, Carefree, is about letting go of perfection, embracing the moment, and remembering not to take life too seriously. I hope it encourages people to breathe a little deeper and enjoy the journey.

What was the recording process like?

It was such a collaborative experience. We focused on creating something honest, uplifting, and authentic from the songwriting all the way through the final vocals.

Would you change anything now it’s finished?

No. Every song reflects where I was in that moment, and I’m proud of how it came together.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

I hope my music reminds people to embrace who they are, keep believing in their dreams, and know that it’s never too late to start a new chapter. Thank you to everyone who’s been part of this journey.
