Leicestershire’s Steven Faulkner has brought out his latest single “Keep On” – the follow up to “Last Drunk Guy” and “I Do Still Believe” released earlier in 2026.
Describing himself as an independent singer-songwriter, which pens “honest, emotionally driven songs about the things that shape us – relationships, resilience, mental health, humanity and the world around us.” whilst dipping his toe across a few genres between alt-rock, acoustic and indie.
Before moving onto the track itself, I wanted to comment on the artwork – it’s a simple photograph of a plant on a windowsill, whilst I am not a self-confessed green-thumb, I can tell that said plant has seen better days, but I do think it’s clever subliminal messaging, along with a very overcast scene, the theme of the song does point to that better times are ahead and whilst it may not stand out with bright colours etc, it is thought-provoking and clever.
With the actual track, it does lean more in the acoustic-indie genres for me, and I like the tone of it, it is actually quite upbeat, despite the lyrics talking about “life will get better, I promise this” – it does offer a refreshing look on difficult times, and the lyrics are quite poignant, the upbeat tempo does well to mask it on first listen, but to be honest, that made me appreciate the song more, it has a deeper meaning and gives you a little perspective.
I’d actually go as far to say it is a bit of a mood-booster, and without going too deep and personal, it’s probably what I needed to hear, which proves that relatability and drawing on life experiences, no matter how rubbish is a really good way to hook your listener.
The musicianship is stunning, I love the acoustic feel to it and it’s just generally a track that just settles you for me, it’s a lovely piece of music.
