SLF LIVE IN MANCHESTER

STIFF LITTLE FINGERS LIVE IN MANCHESTER – WHAT HAPPENED?

Still Little Fingers returned to Manchester Academy on Friday night, a year to the day they last played at this venue. As expected, it was a busy one with punk fans eager to see the Belfast rockers. The current line-up is original member Jake Burns, joined by Ali McMordie, Steve Grantley and Ian McCallum.

The band are known to put on an energetic stage show and this is partly down to the energy of Ali McMordie who never stopped shape pulling and bouncing around in all directions which is quite a feat considering the impressive sounds coming from his guitar.

A SLF audience also play a part, chanting and screaming when the lights dimmed and the band entered the stage. The huge backdrop of a tattooed fist made quite a powerful impression, mixed with a red glow the whole evening is a treat for the senses.

The band started the evening with ‘Suspect Device’ a hard hitting start with one of the bands most popular tracks, even with Burns showcasing a slightly more mellowed voice from the early days of the band. The set list was diverse and despite it being a while since the band released new music, (their last being a re-issue back in 2017 of ‘no going back’, they have so much quality material it doesn’t matter.

Highlights in the set included Tin Soldiers and a very cool Bunny Wailer cover of ‘Roots, Radics, Rockers, Reggae.’ Of course the evening would not be complete without one of the bands most well known tracks and what a way to complete a SLF night. ‘Alternative Ulster’ made for a triumphant ending to an outstanding and memorable evening.

If the band come back next year I highly recommend you grab yourself a ticket and experience Burns and his bandmates in all their punked-up glory.
