10. NEON HAZE BY MATILDA SHAKES
This indie rock bop is a solid entry into Matilda Shakes catalogue in what was a prolific year for them. Featuring on their debut EP, this one was certainly destined to be a hit, particularly with such a catchy guitar hook driving the tune.

The trio of youngsters that make up Revivalry have created this lively track that will get you singing the relatable lyrics at the top of your voice. Despite not having released many songs during their career so far, should they do so, they will be sure to become a huge band.

Danny Darlington’s Freya has a chilled vibe to it, giving it the ability to make you feel all the feels. It’s generally a really nice song to listen to and there is a lot of emotion behind Danny’s voice that makes you feel fully engaged. This wasn’t Danny’s only single of the year, but this one in particular was a huge stand out.

Harriet Rose’s voice is hauntingly captivating in every one of her tracks, but on her track Sunsets, it couldn’t sound more beautiful. 6. LOVE IS FOR EVERYONE BY ANDREW CUSHIN
Despite having all the elements of a classic indie track, Love is For Everyone gives new insight to the genre with Andrew Cushin making it feel completely fresh. Andrew is great at creating both a relaxed slow track whilst still ensuring it has a catchy hook in the chorus, which is exactly what we get in this composition. Andrew also sounds so genuinely full of emotion when he sings on Love is For Everyone, which automatically makes you sit up and pay attention to this brilliant song.

5. HEAD UNDERWATER BY CORELLA
The screechy guitars on Corella’s single, Head Underwater gives the song such a powerful impact instrumentally. You can’t help but nod your head to that angsty rock sound. It works great alongside the strong vocals we also hear, making it just a pretty awesome banger. Another absolute tune from Corella, whose music never fails to impress.

4. FEVER DREAM BY THE CLAUSE
The Clause’s signature good energy is ever present on their single, Fever Dream. We hear the heartfelt regional accent in each line and the simple indie rock instrumentation works great alongside this. It’s another example of the band doing a solid job of creating tracks within the genre that are memorable and catchy.

3. WORDS LOST MEANING BY THE MURDER CAPITAL
The bass on The Murder Capital ‘s Words Lost Meaning is prominent and full of impact, standing out in particular amongst the other elements in the track. Due to the lovely production as well, the bass really makes the song come alive, with the vocals and other instruments complimenting it perfectly. Whilst this is quite an uncharacteristically chilled out single from the band, it’s a sound that definitely works for them.

2. BLAME THE YOUNG BY OCTOBER DRIFT
Blame the young is one of the best singles of the year for definite. This is mostly because of how great it sounds when you listen to the way the song builds up. There is such a simplicity to the beginning of the track, moderately quiet and lots of focus on the vocals. As the song progresses, everything becomes louder with everything sounding big and climatic by the middle, before quieting down momentarily and then launching into an epic finale. This structure works so well and made this song such a good one. October Drift’s new album, also named Blame the Young, is well worth a listen too.

1. THE REBELS HAVE WON BY THE CHASE
Hands down the best single of the year has to be The Rebels Have Won by The Chase. It’s fun, it’s jaunty, it’s interesting. And who can’t resist the way singer Tyler rolls his r’s. The modern ska sound, reminiscent of Madness and The Specials is such an original idea that breathes new life into the whole music scene. I can’t wait to see what more they have to give.
